I was told my timing chain tensioner was going bad, they didn't want to fix it so I took it somewhere else. Told this guy what the other shop said, didn't think they were right, pulled out a stethoscope thing and 2 minutes later told me it's just bad rocker arms.

The chain holder wedge tool for the LH bank popped out when I had the exhaust phaser removed. The chain guide snapped back and caused the chain to jump a tooth on the intake phaser, but do you think that surface on the timiing chain cover would prevent the chain from jumping a tooth on the idler sprocket in this scenario? Any way I can verify this without removing the timing cover?

I was worried about this when i did the one i recently did, because i turned the motor over by hand afterwards and my marks didnt line up no more. I came to the conclusion that its not locking up and im feeling compression so if i kept turning it over it would eventually line up again so i put it back together and it work

watch for this. I had chain guide popped out of the little pocket and the tensioner on the right side popped all the way out. I had to tear the crank pulley and timing cover off. sucked. so it can happen. so yea the chain was ok. but the tensioner was the issue. and I had the tension tool in place but for whatever reason the timing guide popped out.

I dont see why everyone is talking bad about this engine. I have a 11 challenger had it for almost ten years and i never had a problem with the engine the only thing i changed was the alternator only because its a recall. If you keep your engine clean, your regular oil changes which it will tell you when it needs on and don't dog it, it'll last a long time

An engine is a bit too expensive to risk having the timing system end up being a link or two off. That's how you end up doing even more work. You might get lucky a few times, but one day its going to bite you, and a car is going to come back blown up because it was out of time.
@OnlineMechanicTips
Жыл бұрын
That why I said for cautious mechanics like you to simply use a bungie cord. Did you not hear that? I also just showed how thats virtually impossible for the timing to be off at the crank. So if you still somehow manage to screw it up, you shouldn't be working on cars. You don't have to do nothing that I do dude..Do things the best way that fit you.
