Verse 13 and 14 are highly controversial. There are 4 versions I have heard so far. They mix up the surya and chandra verses and also the order in which they are recited and I'm not sure which is the correct one. 1.Aardraam pushkarineem pushtim Pingalaam padma maalineem Chandraam hiranmayeem lakshmeem... Followed by Yah karineem yashtim Suvarnaam hema maalineem Suryam hiranmayeem lakshmeem Most of the North Indian versions use this 2. Ardraam pushkarineem pushtim Suvarnaam hema maalineem Chandraam hiranmayeem... Followed by the Yah karineem yashtim verse with Suryam hiranmayeem 3. Ardraam yah karineem yashtim Pingalaam padmamaalineem Suryam hiranmayeem... Some say this verse with Chandraam hiranmayeem @13:44 this version uses Aardraan pushkarineem pushtim Suvarnaam... Followed by Suryam hiranmayeem and then yah karineem yashtim Chandraam hiranmayeem Some have debated that Ida nadi or chandra nadi is represented by Pushti and the hue of gold (suvarnaam) so Pushkarineem Pushtim must have Chandraam in it while the Pingala nadi or Surya nadi is associated with Yashti so Yah Karineem yashtim should have Suryam in it. I don't know which is correct.

@@gowri1991 you might be correct on your part but, chanting something without understanding the significance is also very dangerous...the prime reason being, you cannot always blindly trust on anyone. Every version available must be having it's own significance

Since the Vedas are believed to "authorless" and are of divine origin, how can one explain/justify differences in words and the mantras itself? How different schools came into being when they were supposed to utter the mantra as passed on by the Rishi? It seems that just like revisions are done to modern scientific subjects with new discoveries etc., the Vedas were modified by later on generations? Otherwise there should not be any reason for the same mantra to be with different words/verses. It doesn't make sense at all. Not sure, what all was modified...
@universe6735
2 жыл бұрын
Different rishi's heard it differently. That's why different schools with different recitations.
@critical_analysis
2 жыл бұрын
@@universe6735 How could that make sense? Universal truths heard by the rishis should be similar, right? We don't need to go far at all, just take a look at the three creation hymns namely the Nasadiya Suktam, Hiranyagarbha Suktam and Purusha Suktam. These three hymns depict the creation of universe in contradicting fashion, and only one of them should be true, right? But, here different rishis heard the origin of creation in three different ways, that is not logical at all, right? I have spent quite some time understanding and analyzing our texts including the Vedas and have come to the conclusion that the development of the Vedas was gradual, various suktams were added as time went on and the contradictions amongst one another shows that these could not have been under a divine inspiration. I have great regard for our culture and traditions but also at the same time don't take the Vedas seriously as divine injunctions. If the Vedic injunctions were divine, then should be able to alter natural phenomena like occurring of rains and so on under "testable conditions" and should be able to reproduce it at will through the conduct of Yagnas like Varuna Yagnam and all. But, none of the Vedic pandits who just do the memorization of the Vedas cannot take up any such challenge at all. In my humble view, the development of the Vedas was gradual, when our ancestors were fearing natural phenomena, they started venerating natural forces like rain, wind, sun, thunder, fire and so on and hence you would see all the initial hymns of the Rig Veda proclaiming the greatness for these natural forces in the form of Indra/Vayu/Agni/Aditya and so on. Later on, as our ancestors progressed sufficiently they developed more intellectual capacity and started inquiring more deeper questions and thus came the origin of the Upanishads and the six darshanas like Sankhya, Nyaya, Vedanta, Mimasa, Yoga and so on. This is just my humble view, and I do believe in the law of karma but not exactly in the scriptural authority of the Vedas.
@universe6735
2 жыл бұрын
@@critical_analysis if you do not believe in Vedas then why are you doing such a long farting here. Just get lost.
@critical_analysis
2 жыл бұрын
@@universe6735 Because, I want people not to follow the injunctions blindly, when the basic creation hymns in the Vedas contradict one another. If you were knowledgeable enough, you would have been able to answer my question on the three creation hymns and the reason for the apparent contradictions, but you seem to believe them blindly without applying your own analysis of what exactly those are. The reason I asked was because, if there is any logical answer to the contradictions and thus far none was able to answer. People are more fascinated in reproducing them with rote memorization than really understanding what exactly do these Vedic hymns are all about. Vedas are nothing but prayers of innocent people of those times to get various material benefits, most of them are mundane and repetitive prayers to get cattle, progeny, etc, not much philosophy there at all. If you were honest in your study of the Vedas and had faith in them, then you would answer the questions, instead of losing your temper.

@@dushyantk Okay. Way 2 makes more sense to me. In Way 1 if you're not breaking up the word and chanting as one word, as in 'prapadhyelakshmeer me nashyataam', then it sounds as lakshmeer me nashyataam...which kind of defeats the purpose. We want Alakshmi to go, not Lakshmi.
