In 2023, the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts held the exhibition "The gold of the Sarmatian Chieftains", which brought together unique artefacts from the Filippovka site - a burial mound group from the 5th to 4th centuries B, located in the Southern Urals - for the first time. These mounds were christened "royal" because beneath them were discovered lavish burials of the Sarmatian nobility, whose burial sets included numerous pieces of gold jewellery.
This film tells about the excavations of the Filippovka mounds. For the first time, it features rare excavation footage from the archives of the Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences and personal archives of the expedition participants. The film uses footage shot at the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts and the Grabar Art Conservation Centre.
