I honestly have more issues with selective breeding for deformities that make life more difficult for the fish ("balloon" types and the like) than I do with hybrids. Hybrids occur quite often in nature, and oftentimes the hybrids stand a better chance at survival than the "pure" strains do.

That was a cool fish farm, in business for a loooong time and responsible for some of the early color varieties of livebearers. I kind of still sit on the fence with hybrids, but those were really cool looking fish once they got some size on them. Hybrids are much different than mutations which I'm totally against whether by accident or on purpose.

Every variation is a mutation (color variations, fin differences, etc), but I agree that any breeding for a trait that causes fish (or any animal) to have a shorter or more painful life is unfair.

Hybrids are very cool under 2 conditions: 1. The quality of life isn’t reduced due to hybridization. 2. Those that didn’t fit the “perfect” outcome aren’t killed off. It’s one thing worth discussing that someone is manipulating a natural process, but it’s a complete other when thinking that someone is manipulating the process and killing the result. 2 fish breeding naturally would nearly always result in a desired or “sellable” fish. Just because a breeder meddled in the process and made something they didn’t want, doesn’t mean it should be killed off.

Hybrid fish or any animals in general will stay In any form of hobby whether we like it or not. We just need to respect others choices. To each their own. Both arguments have merit in value. We just need to leave at that so that all of us hobbyists can enjoy the care for our pets, natural or unnatural. To me, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. What is good to you, may not be good to me, but that doesn’t mean we can’t both enjoy the hobby. I think personally that they are all beautiful. Now in terms of “Culling”, both sides have the same formula that they follow because on the normal side of breeding fish, there are many that are deformed, unhealthy, etc. Due to inbreeding too much. It is also for the lack of resources. That’s my experience anyway. So, at the end of it, let’s just “Respect” each other to enjoy this Beautiful hobby. Thank you all.

As long as it is for beautiful fish rather than deformaties like flowerhorns and Bubble Eye goldfish I'm okay with it. Breeding for deformaties is just sick and cruel to the fish as they may not actually have any advantage to the and can cause them difficulties in their life. But for beautiful patterns and colours is fine as no fish were harmed in the making.

I'm not against hybrids as long as they are disclosed properly, the problem occurs when you buy 6 juvi peacocks at auction that are grey and labelled "Aulonocara Cobue" and end up having yellow on them instead of totally blue - have had that happen more than once. I think at the end of the day, we have removed the fish from the wild regardless so there is minimal natural selection - people even sometimes accidentally alter a fish by picking their preference in colour, shape, etc. (i.e. electric yellows with the thick black bar on the dorsal, most wild caught labido it's much thinner). I do agree with a lot of the comments that trying to keep to form for CARES fish is important as they don't have a fighting chance in the wild usually. Definitely an interesting fish to see, would be cool to see the red more in the body - probably a passion project for someone.

Enjoyed the video Zenzo! I don't think there's anything "wrong" with hybridizing fish - lots of aquarium store fish (swordtails, platies, peacocks) are hybrids of different species. I do think there's something cool about maintaining a species though, especially if it's a rare or threatened fish. For me, it adds to the story behind the fish and makes them more interesting, even if they don't have the same bling as their hybrid cousins.

I think Hybrids become a problem when they are released to the wild and become a thread for the natural populations. But this can happen with any selective breeding as with bettas. Besides that selective breeding like long fins, veil tails or baloons are much more harmful in my opinion. However, stores should be transperent about hybridization as a lot of the hybrids probably cannot reproduce anymore.

I know it's very controversial and that's okay.. we have people who preserve pure strains and we need them!! But in the hobby just like in the wild hybridization does occur! I think we're the line gets crossed is when people breed for certain things that are detrimental to the fish.. the main thing is these fish are here to stay and if you love fish like I do they all need to be loved and cherished! That's the beauty of this hobby you can find your cup of tea and go with it! A true hybrid is like you're talkin about, two specific fish actually crossing!! I was honestly going to mention a liger and then you showed it on the video 😂 that's the beauty of the world you can never say never and things do happen!! Thanks for sharing Zenzo!! The question is not: Do I love hybrid or not! The question is what is the purpose in creating "amazing" unatural monsters. Tank fish have already paid a lot of suffering things (extreme body modifications, extreme color modifications, glowfish, etc), it is not usefull to create more. The thing behind this is just buziness... And do not forget that if these fish find their way to the wild we can say goodbye to the true natural species...

Hybrids can be very beautiful and I have kept some myself. In my opinion, one of the biggest issue is hybridized fish are not always kept or sold responsibly. Some of the offspring will look 100% like one of the parents and not a hybridized fish. If resale is not done responsibly, then you can end up with a misrepresentation of or muddying down of a species. Imagine buying a fish sold to you as a certain species with the intent of breeding it yourself, only to find out later it's a hybrid. I have kept Hybrids as mentioned, one of which was a Texas Cichlid X Jaguar Cichlid. The fish were beautiful, but someone who did not know they were hybridized could easily believe they were just very nice Texas Cichlids. For me, it really just comes down to being a responsible hobbyist as to weather or not it should be accepted. Always an interesting topic to discuss and debate about.

From my understanding, these hybrid Olney occasionally happen. and are very good for a strong gene pool. I don't support these teacup poodles or Welsh corgis or even dachshund. For obvious unethical reasons they suffer because of distasteful humans think they are cute! But if it can occur naturally it's a sign of strong evolution. 🔵Some people love hybrids but hate glowfish. Glowfish are technically a color variation but are still the same species. They breed true and are just as hardy and healthy as the non glowfish. Also the glowfish was originally created for environmental research. What purpose was a flowerhorn created for? To create something weird to make money? Yes, glowfish are now produced for profit and they keep adding more species all the time. I read somewhere that part of the profit is still used for research. Don't quote me on that. I think glowfish are really neat and they help to bring new young people into the hobby. Personally I think flowerhorns are the ugliest fish in the hobby today but some people love them. To each his own. I just wish people would quit bashing the glowfish as being unnatural. No they're not but so are most of the hybrids you see.

Also the picture you're using for a parrot or king Kong parrot is an especially deformed individual with no caudal fin, which I find alarming. Whether we are for hybrids or against, those types of deformations are naturally culled in the wild and almost certainly affect the ability of the fish to behave normally.

Polar bear and grizzly bear hybrids, known as 'pizzly bears,' could become more common because of the climate crisis | Business Insider México | Noticias pensadas para ti. .
