I live in Comanche Texas, Comanche County. My mom's family is in Floyd county KY, MacDowell to be exact. I just turned 64, retired and I live alone. My Granpa was a coal miner all his life, just like all his kin was. Granny and Granpa had 11 kids and one evening after supper grandpa stood up from the table, wiped his mouth and dropped dead. He had a massive heart attack brought on by black lung disease. I was 3 yrs old. I can remember his booming voice and his Winston cigarette. I have been to KY a couple of times but it was winter, and icy and I was never able to see my grandpa's grave or for that matter over 40 people who are buried there. Moore is mom's family name but we are kin to the, Dyes, Stumbols, Gayhart, Osbornes, and Salyers, and several other families there. I wish I could have known him better.

That is a beautiful place and it's so good of you to find these people's loved ones. I've always been fascinated by cemeteries and graveyards. My mom my kids and I used to ride around on Sunday afternoons and visit relatives in the cemeteries and graveyards of NC. Some were just family ones near where they lived other were by old churches. One of my 3 great grandpa was all alone under an apple tree because he supposedly took his life. It was near where we lived and we always tried to keep flowers on it. The land had been sold years before my mom was born but even my kids knew about it. In the 70s the whole area was bulldozed before we knew it and my youngest brother in law was riding his motorcycle thru when he found the grave open and he stopped the big machines came and got me and mom and we hunted for days but we never did find the marker. We think the ones doing the grading saw it and realized what they had done and got ride of his stone. It's funny but the house that stands there now doesn't keep people in it long and about a year or so ago at the creek just below his grave the bridge washed out and a man was killed there. As far back as I can remember it's always been said he haunted that area . I know you don't believe but Heather does. Thank you for caring about the people and especially the veterans in these places. Love all you videosn

What a wonderful story Leo ❤❤ to be able to help Patrick and his siblings see a special video made just for them by you and Heather. Such a special video, when you said “Patrick, here is you’re father” my heart ached and my eyes teared up because I’ve never met my own father. I was able to find his grave personally in October 2021. No doubt y’all are very proud of the accomplishments that your dad did for our great United States of America. It seems like a lot of our family members in those mountains and those particular times chose to go into the service to serve the country. Your dad went far beyond that. Thank you for your service, Mr. Martin!! 🇺🇸

My name is Sherri Cassady, and my Daddy was born in Chattaroy. All my kin are buried in the Murphy Cemetery in Kermit. George Eston ( Red-redwing) Cassady is my great grandfather. My family was one of the first to settle Mingo county. I’m from Miami Florida. I visited a couple of years ago for the first time ever. I would totally be forever grateful if you could go to the Murphy, across from the Dollar General in Kermit and post for me. 🌹❤️

Btw, Daddy died Aug 6th 2017 never saying a word. It was so important to me to know where I come from that after decades of research, I took a DNA test. I’m proud to be of Appalachian descent. I just wish he would of shared all my history with me and my 9 siblings. At 53, I had to find out for myself that I am related to so many families from that area. Including both, the Hatfields & McCoys. Do you know where my great aunt Alta McCoy is buried? She married Prior McCoy. I can’t seem to find her and I hear the flood ruined a lot for me, document and location wise..

ATTENTION Patrick: my Dad was in the Signal Corp in WWII. I have a question, by chance dud your Dad have a shrapnel injury on his shoulder area during WWII? I really would like to know, because my Dad told us a story about how he saved his Sgt by using his T-shirt to bandage him and he had to put his thumb inside the wound and use pressure to stop the bleeding. He also said he had to ride straddling him on the stretcher all the way to the hospital. Wouldn't it be something if that was your Dad! This would have been right after the war was declared over and the troops were there as part of the occupation forces....either in Italy or Germany..Let me know. And I am sorry for your loss. I'm sorry you never got to really know him and hr didn't get to know the Man you've become.. I'm sure though, you've made him proud.
