Model 3 arcade games were the last arcade games that I remember actually being really impressed by.

Yes. Nowadays, arcades aren't as famous as they used to be and that's why they don't receive much investment from gaming companies either. I wanted a new game that served the purpose of being something consoles couldn't replicate

M3 games really set a high bar for arcade experiences. They left a lasting impression on so many of us!

The Model 3 is an absolute legend and many of those games have aged so well that they are even impressive today! LA Machineguns is such a stunner, especially the vegas-stage...

Si hubieran salido todos los juegos de Model 3 en Dreamcast la consola hubiera resistido más tiempo... 😢

Looking back on model 2 and model 3 to some extent, there's a definite lack of flair in how the graphics are rendered. There are no transparency effects, and even on model 3 everything still has a kind of "flat" sense to it despite the textures trying to give an impression of depth and complexity. I guess there's a reason they made so many racing games 🙂 At the time i couldn't believe the fidelity of what I was seeing, but now I see more of the shortcuts and the limitations, I guess. The xbox has this look too it as well i think. It's like the last evolution of this style of graphics before we discovered other mapping techniques.

It's interesting how those early systems pushed the limits of the technology at the time. The evolution from flat, textured graphics to more complex techniques really highlights the progress we've made in gaming visuals.

@@retroreplaysvault yeah I remember the hardware being the limit of what you could *do* - for instance quake was so demanding because it was no longer a "corridor" shooter, doom took massive shortcuts in level design to simplify all the calculations. Even in an arcade setting, it seems like there was still a raw limit in how many polygons and textures you could throw at the screen.
