Well hey, my Grand Seiko SBGF017 has split pins, too. The bracelet is so thin (and supremely comfortable I might add) that I don't think there's any room for collars. The build quality is still just about second to none. In addition to the usual (and very high quality) solid end links and the solid scissor deployant clasp, it has half links for adjustment, pivoted center links, finely rounded and polished sides on the outer links and polished bevels on the center links (which looks incredible), and a raised and deeply embossed signature on the half size (microadjust-less) push button clasp housing. In short, I don't see split pins without collars as a major drawback. They're easier to size and unless you're resizing so often as to potentially wear the bore of the link, there's no real disadvantage.

That's a huge part of why I bought it too. The movement was one reason, but that unique dial is really striking. You just don't see a lot of green dialed watches out there. This one has a great balance between the gold accents and dial color. The whole thing just works. If you haven't purchased one yet, take a look at buying one from Seiya Japan. They have it listed for just under $370 USD right now. Thanks for watching!

are you saying the leather feels like cardboard because it doesn't bend? if that is the case, high quality new leather is typically hard and it takes time to wear and soften.

You can find this watche outside of Japan. I just picked one up from a store in Sweden (Love it). The salesrep. told me that since they carry Grand Seiko, they will sometimes have some SARBs aswell.

I've had 2 of these and the bracelet is definately worth it. I just don't wear the green dialed watch as much as my black dialed watches and I sold the last one to fund an Omega SMP. But still keep thinking about getting another SARB017 Alpinist. Even with the cost of the bracelet at around $700 its a real bargain. I think the Alpinist case is very nicely finished and both of the version I had were extremely accurate out of the box.

The bracelet is factory made by Seiko for this watch and the Sarb015 so it's not custom per say but it is OEM. They charge an arm and a leg for it though. The wjean28 may not fit correctly on this watch since its not factory made. The width is correct but the endlinks fit is questionable. If you own this watch and find that the wjean28 bracelet fits let me know because I'd be interested in trying one out then! :)

Thanks for the heads up about the bracelet. I was thinking about getting this watch, and possibly the bracelet if I can find it. I'm definitely still interested in the watch, but if I get a bracelet it will probably be a Strapcode bracelet that costs a third of the one made by Seiko.

I got one, and although I like the band it came with, (it isn't cheap, it is crocodile, and needs to be broken in. I prefer green croc for this one), however it really does better for daily non dressy wear on the stainless seiko band shown, which I also purchased, and it is a great look. I also bought a green NATO style band which is nice and casual. But the main thing is the watch itself. It is a fantastic looking watch and should wear well and still be a looker years from now.

Bought one August 2020 $440 when two weeks earlier it was $400. Bought a ratchet clasp strapcode bracelet for it that’s pretty okay for $115. Big gaps from the clasp to bracelet. But cheaper than buying a nice bracelet and paying $65 on top of that for a Seiko Marine master ratchet clasp.

Love this watch (and I love my SARB033 also). I too replaced the original leather band. I thought the quality was good, but the chocolate color was too dark for me, and I wanted a lighter 'caramel' color to go with the beautiful shimmering green of the dial. So I swapped it out, and kept the original buckle (which is very good quality), and the green & caramel combination is very striking, quite beautiful. I also own the SARB065 'Cocktail Time' with the 'ice' dial. Another home-run by Seiko, with the terrific 6R15 movement. Which is, in my opinion, superior to the ETA2824. Cheers!

I also own the SARB033, great watch. It's my go to for dressy occasions. If you ever need quality band's in the future, take a look at either Crown & Buckle, or Hirsch straps. Particularly the Hirsch Liberty strap in your case since you wanted a lighter brown color. Cheers!

Hi, after watching you video, I decided to get this watch. I recieved it today and realized the button the controls the bezel is a little loose. Loose as it it poops out a little. Is that the same case with your Sarb 017 watch? I just want to make sure if it was suppose to be like that or it was just my watch. Thanks again for your review. Please let me know.

It shouldn't move other than just spinning to turn the bezel. If it had any play where it can pop out similar to a regular crown then thats a problem.
@WISdomWatchReport

The bezel crown shouldn't pop out at all in my experience. If it moves slightly I wouldn't worry too much about it. But if it's a noticeable amount of play I'd send it in to get looked at.

For $400+ you SHOULD expect a quality leather strap; there's no excuse for that, any more than their hair-puller bracelets on their cheaper models. You're right about the cheap split pin bracelet too. I think if they replaced the useless compass bezel with a nice internal timing bezel, and had the option of a good bracelet or good strap, they'd take the watch world by STORM.
@WISdomWatchReport
9 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I agree they should have done a better job on the bracelet and band. I've seen plenty of other less expensive Seiko's with better bracelets (EG: The Sportura) that blow this one away. It's not bad, but it should have been much better given the price.
