This is very helpful. I'm middle aged but have had "staring spells" my whole life. I thought everyone had these, but recently discovered it's not true. I have always called it a "visual yawn". It is a moment where my brain zones out and I sort of "reset". I don't know if I have absence seizures but I am learning more about it, now. Thanks for your video!

There were times were I was sitting at my desktop computer, and all of a sudden I lost all consciousness. All I saw was darkness. I didn't hear anything, yet I still felt myself sitting up. One time I had my fingernails digging into my face, and I didn't feel it, until I regained consciousness, and it hurt like hell; I quickly moved my hand.

I have see two adults have this type of seizure. But, one of them have lasted 8 to 12 minutes. This person will come back from a seizure if you talk to them. Not one Doctor seems to know what is happening. I've heard it called an: absent spell. The person will usually say that they do not feel right and they are very tired. These seizures do not happen everyday and sometimes spaced years apart. They randomly happen.

I was born with hydrocephalus, and have had one seizure type or another since I was a toddler. From the time I was a toddler until I was in upper elementary school, I had the tonic-clonic seizures, but occasionally the absence seizure. Ever since I was in high school (I'm in my late 30s now), I've had these episodes where I'd be crossing a street and be staring into space. My mom and her sister worry about my safety in that department because of it.

I’ve had these staring spells my whole life. My mom was Irish and she stayed drunk all day. She was a very unpredictable, screaming and scary drunk. I remember sitting there zoning out most of my toddler years having to be home alone with her. I have zoned out a couple of times a day while I was growing up and into adulthood. I still zone out for about 10 minutes a day. When I’m getting that staring feeling, I go to a park where a bunch of stuck up people go so I can stare without anybody speaking to me.

Childhood Absence Seizure: No warning, eye blinking (Unaware) then you become aware of eye blinking and then stop. No bad feelings after but amnesia. 3 hertz and wave EEG.. Caused by tiredness, hyperventilation even from running, like playing tag, and outgrow by late teens. Then gone for good.

i have absence seizures. I was diagnosed at the age of 5 but have been seizure free since the age of thirteen and so was taken of meds but when my father died, it seems I have had a relapse if that is possible. i still have my absence seizure but it is not enough to put me on meds . i have been getting driving lesson and have 10 -20 seizures in the drivers seat. i take omega 3 cod liver oil liquid form as i can not swallow pills this helps decrease the too -small -to -medicate -seizures i have very small seizures that show up on the EEG as misfired neurons and the Dr. called them "flurries" so here is what my flurries are typically like i will become very spacey i can not interact with my surroundings i also felt locked in to place.

I have absence seizures. I was diagnosed at the age of 5 but have been seizure free since the age of thirteen and so was taken of meds which caused massive weight gain a hand tremor and memory loss. The point is meds are good up until a point an then it becomes a pill no pun intended. my triggers are flashing lights, specifically the transition from the out doors to inside a classroom getting too hot and recently sleep deprivation. my parents were told to treat me as a normal child and to see how fare I would develop and look at me now I have graduated high school with honors though I did hope for a regents diploma but after taking the algebra common core regent seven times starting out with a 40 and ending up with a 57. I am in collage as you can infer I was not expected to do much of what I just mentioned The effects of my seizures is that i have Aspie like tendencies due to my epilepsy which i know is difficult to understand to put it in simple terms as a result of my seizures my brain compensated and rewired itself and so i have all of the symptoms of Aspergers but lack any sort of understanding math as a result i have no understanding of money and never really learned my basic math facts.(i am just learning them now in college which for most Aspergers people they are gifted with math abilities ) i also have orthotic because due to my seizures that i had straight feet at birth i also have a sensory processing disorder. i have low gross motor control and other motor issues as well. After my father died, it seems I have had a relapse if that is possible. i still have my absence seizure but it is not enough to put me on meds . i have been getting driving lesson and have 10 -20 seizures in the drivers seat. i take omega 3 cod liver oil liquid form as i can not swallow pills this helps decrease the too -small -to -medicate -seizures i have very small seizures that show up on the EEG as misfired neurons and the Dr. called them "flurries" so here is what my flurries are typically like i will become very spacey i can not interact with my surroundings i also felt locked in to place.

This video has been the most helpful and information BY FAR. I've searched high and low searching for something that resembles or explains clearly a complex partial seizure 'staring spell'. My son's first episode was pretty big, the whole body convulsing and unconscious and unresponsive. Now, he has 'staring spell seizures' on a fairly regular basis. He will be playing or whatever and then just....stop. He has these a few times a day and is now on Keppra. Is this labeled as Epilepsy???

I have moments where I'm sitting still watching tv or talking and then everything is black and silent. I don't fall or move out my place and I'm not confused or seemingly displaced but I can tell I don't know what happened. I do have to pick up where I left off.

I have autism, I haven't been diagnosed with epilepsy, but I think I'm getting absence seizures. What happens if I start staring in the middle of doing stuff while staring my mind goes blank, so it can't be daydreaming because I'm not thinking about anything when it happens my mind goes blank. I can hear if my mom says my name but I can't respond or move. Got these all the time since I was 7. I was playing baseball at 7 I got these staring spells, I would be in the outfield, and my team would already be in the dugout. One time it happened when someone was throwing a ball for me to hit I can't remember anything except I got out of the spell and my belly hurt. My dad said I was starting and they threw the baseball and it hit me. When I get out of these spells I can't really remember anything before that. I've been to the dr many times and we aren't getting any answers. My MRI and EEG both came back normal. If I get a spell I have many more that same day, but somedays I don't have any at all. Also after these spells happen my legs and arms are tingling. Sometimes during these spells, I am half aware of what's going on my hand twitches, one time actually twice my jaw uncontrollably clamped down. I could barely chew the rest of that day and the day after that. 3 different times I woke up in the middle of the night with my legs stiff and jerking, I couldn't control my body I couldn't move. Does any of this sound like seizures? Please, I'm not getting any answers from the drs. So I came on here to hopefully get some answers. I'm 15 now and I'm afraid to drive because of these spells and I get very confused. I am also very dizzy all the time, I was diagnosed with migraines and I think I have vestibular migraines instead of regular migraines because of me being dizzy all the time. I am tired of all this happening, it's hard to focus on school, I forget all the material, I forget what I study. It's terrible.

So now I find on KZitem films of experts discussing how to tell if a child is unconscious or has add. I find that very upsetting. / At 2.10 ‘a very loud clap in the face’ ........ really? That is abusive. If the only way you can tell a child is unconscious is by clapping loud in their face....... if I were that child I wouldn’t wake up either: zooming out is a coping strategy in abusive environments. We are talking dissociation here. People don’t ‘daydream’ like that for no reason and clapping in their face just means: ok this person is not safe don’t make contact. If the person has epilepsy clapping isn’t good, if the person has add your just telling them they are not allowed to daydream and the essence of who they are is wrong, if the person is dissociating clapping isn’t very empathic either. In what world would clapping in a child’s face be of any use? This is madness. Imagine a young child and they are doing that in your face: you are ruining the bond and now they will never tell what’s on their mind. This video is outrageous and many people think it’s an official expert.
