Peace be upon you everybody! Nikon D3400 intervalometer/shutter release Hello everyone, I’m an intermediate photographer with experience in 35mm film with the D3400 being my first DSLR I'm wondering if i can use Nikon D3300/3200/3100 intervalometer/shutter release (that got a Mini USB type b cable) with my D3400 (which got a Micro USB port type b) by using a mini USB type b female to micro USB type b male cable/adapter? Should it work or no??? Is that shutter compatible with my D3400 if i transformed its cable to Micro USB type b instead of Mini USB type b and plug it into the camera? Help me please to make my first timelapse 😭

Great timing!:) I just got my hands on the Nikon 40mm macro/micro lens:). Hi I have a question. Would you recommend buying a used camera from? Also is the Canon sl1 with the 18-55mm lens a good option. I want to just take pictures as a hobby and don't want to spend too much(more than 350)
@RealWorld

Thanks for the post/question:). Not certain where you are located ... if you are in the US, I might suggest search Nextdoor, Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, and ebay (in that order). I like to get my hands on any used camera gear prior to buying used if possible, although I had good luck with ebay as well:). The SL1 is good/solid and should do the trick, however I might also recommend the Nikon D3400 ( amzn.to/2GQJjpv (check amazon marketplace as well for used)) or the D3500.

@RealWorld

@RealWorld
6 жыл бұрын
Welcome to the channel and thanks for the post!:) Ahhhh yes, I have many thoughts for people on a budget. I started my photography adventure on a budget and respect budget minded people:). From a budget perspective I would hold off on any filters unless you wanted to get ND filters (I created a video on this - ND stands for neutral density which are great to capture flowing water during the daylight). Start with the 18-55 kit lens and perhaps consider the Nikon fixed 50 f/1.8. In addition, consider a tripod:). I have a handful of videos on tripods, flashes, lenses, etc. ... browse my channel and let me know if you have questions!:)

Ahhhh yes, this might be a good addition to my videos. I live in a part of the world that is relatively dry. Nonetheless, I exchanged messages with subscribers in very humid conditions regarding fungus/growth. @RealWorld
6 жыл бұрын
I suspect you are over-exposing the image which can be easy to do in manual mode:). I tend to shoot in aperture or shutter priority with exception to night/creative shots in which I use manual. When in manual mode, pay attention to the exposure indicator/meter located in the bottom right of the view finder. Adjust the shutter speed, aperture, and ISO to properly align the indicator in the center which notes a properly exposed image.

Just found your channel and have watched a few of your excellent videos. Presently waiting for my D3400 to arrive and meantime trying to learn something about the possibilities when leaving "point & shoot" behind. A suggestion if I may; how about an instructional video on post processing with GIMP? Not everyone want to or can reasonably afford to splash out on commercial programs. The cost of the 3400 alone, though considered "entry level", is not inconsiderable! Kepp the good work coming please.

Hey man currently i have nikon d7200 with af-p 18 55 vr kit lens .. when i am in indoor condition in night i have to bump up my iso to 1000 to get perfect exposure metering as well as well balanced image ( Note - my indoor lighting is good ) . Is this thing normal ? Plz reply
@RealWorld
6 жыл бұрын
Yes, this is perfectly normal:). When shooting indoors, you may need to bump much higher depending on available light and desired shutter speed. ISO of 1000 indoor at night is not too bad in my opinion. I will go into the 3k range if need and sometimes into the 6k range:). If into the 6k range, I will reduce noise in post edit using Lightroom.

What mode are you using when shoot video? You might try full auto when shooting video or shutter priority. If using shutter priority, you should set the shutter to roughly double the frame rate. For example, if you are shooting at 30 fps, you should set your shutter to 1/60 of second. I suspect 1/100 at ISO 100 is too fast to allow proper light to the sensor although I am a bit surprised you are seeing complete darkness with bright sunlight.

Hello Sir it's me again with another question 😊 concerning my Nikon D3400 W/18-55 & 70-300 lenses. I had mentioned to you about my son going into the army next Thursday is boot camp graduation at Fort Jackson South Carolina I am flying out for this. As I understand it they will be marching towards us coming through a smoke screen, should be awesome and I am nervous don't want to fubar my shots so, I could use any suggestions you may have for me, which of your videos best to watch?, what to practice over this weekend? ISO auto 100? Shoot in S or A or full M? Or ("hehe") I'll admit sometimes I cheat and use guide + advanced + maybe the one landscape that says less blur in background? I don't know if I will be in a position to use it but I have a tripod. And this weekend I am going to update the firmware and set up snapbridge I'm hoping with snapbridge I can both use my phone as both the viewfinder and remote thank you for your time and videos. Sincerely, your Photography student 👍

Great to hear from you and I do recall your previous posts!:) WOW - seems like yesterday he enlisted!:) Good laugh on the FUBAR reference as well. Very cool to hear he made it through and will graduate on Thursday!:) I recall my boot campe experience along with graduation ... meant a bunch to see my parents, and I suspect your attendance will mean the same. I bet he is feeling great about now knowing he completed the challenge ... hats off to him and the other troops in his graduating class. Okay, back to photography!:) This is how I would most likely setup/use my camera is the given situation ... set ISO to manual (although auto is not bad), setup back button focus ( kzitem.info/news/bejne/l6eLy5amipeUn44 ), use aperture priority, and leave the tripod in the car (tripod would be great for night shots and self shots (standing next to your son, etc.)). If the platoon/company is standing still, you are fine to shoot at a relatively slow shutter like 1/60, 1/80 of a second using ISO 100 or ISO 200 if possible. If they are moving, you will want to target a faster shutter to freeze movement (like 1/100 or faster). You can increase the shutter speed by increasing the ISO (I do this all the time and it works well). Staying in aperture mode will allow you to better control background blur but you will most like open the aperture wide to allow the most like in which is fine. The back button focus using continues focus in single point focus mode allows you to lock and track the focus point on a specific area when holding down the back button ... might sound a bit confusing but it's not bad:). Hope all this helps to some extent!:) Practice, practice, practice, and have fun!:)

RealWorld awesome thank you. I have been using back button since I first watched that video. Have to go back and find the video on increasing ISO for shutter speeds and practice what you've suggested here. Glad this brought back fond memories for you as well. I will definitely be sharing on my Facebook page but will also share on instagram what I come back with. Thank you sooo much again really appreciate all you do.

I am not certain if this option exists in the 1300d. Nonetheless, the same can be accomplished in Lightroom:). Stay tuned as I plan to release a video on selective coloring in Lightroom at some point.

Your videos have been so helpful, and this one too. I bought a Canon T6i a couple months ago and I've appreciated all your tutorials. You definitely help me through the learning curve. I'll be heading out soon to take night photos of Christmas lights in Carmel and Fishers. Can you tell me: Is Selective Color a feature on this Canon? I've gone through the menu options and cannot find it. Thank you for your channel. Well done!

Thanks for the post/feedback Bill and glad to be of help!:) Nice to see a fellow Hoosier on the channel as well:). I do not believe the T6i has an option to isolate colors in the same manner, however this can be done in post processing using something like Lightroom. Not certain if you are familiar with Lightroom. If not, you are in for a pleasant surprise:). I use an older version of Lightroom for post processing and have done so for many years ... Lightroom is the defacto of photo software for many photographers. I have a few related videos on my channel - let me know if you would some links and I will post back. I received a handful of requests regarding how to isolate colors in Liightroom and plan to create a related video very soon.

1- Please show us what b&w looks like in camera. 2- Is live view/ preview available in all modes: AUTO, PSAM? 3- Is there a D3500 in the making with flip screen or tilt screen? Thank you!
@dalewcrighton8083

As far as a flip screen. An app is available that allows control of the D3400 from your smartphone, with live view, up to 16 ft away (Max for the USB cable). Great for nature and hands-free shutter release. I use Camera Connect & Control, An OTG Host Data Cable will be required. I got my via Amazon for about $8

#1 - very similar to selective color but without selecting any color:) #2 - yes, live view is available in all modes #3 - nothing confirmed but i am hearing that nikon may release a next model in the next 6-9 months. rumors are too wide to anticipate what might be included but a rotating screen is a possibility:).

Hi new to photography just wondering can you recommend a good cheap landscape lens to fit the d3400
@RealWorld

The Tokina 16-28 is an option ( amzn.to/2vnq9PK ) but still relatively expensive depending on your budget. If you really want to save and stay in the landscape range, I like the 18 side of the 18-55 kit lens ... it is really not too bad in my opinion.
