I think people are just addicted to cracking joints and think they feel better after finally hearing that expected crack.
@kg4021
5 жыл бұрын
Actually I started cracking my joints because a doctor told me to when I was a small child. I told my dad at 5 years old my hands hurt. He took me to the doctor and they wanted to place me on drugs, which thankfully my dad refused. The doctor then said for me to pop/crack my knuckles for relief. So my father would grab my fingers every night and pop my fingers/knuckles. Then as I became older I went ahead and did them myself. I do go to a chiropractor every month and yes they tell me it is self mutilation but it has been such a habit for so long that it is difficult to break it.

@@chiropracticmedicine47 I'm 44 and yes my hands and feet hurt when it rains and is cold more than the other joints in my body. I also have scoliosis, had a mild case of frostbite in my 20s in my hands and feet, and have hyper mobility in my neck from cracking it. I've been seeing my chiropractor for now 15 years and he is the best. Cracking my knuckles is such a bad habit but difficult to break. My knuckles are huge. I do try to eat organic food, drink apple cider vinegar with water, do not take OTC medicine nor Rx medicine, exercise occasionally, and take organic vitamins. I'm not hurting as bad as when I used to eat processed foods and before I went to my chiropractor. When I was in my late 20s I ate junk food and didn't see a chiropractor. I felt tired a lot and my joints often would hurt. Like I said now I eat better, exercise, see my chiropractor, massage myself, etc and feel a lot better than before. I'm not 100% healthy but I'm better than most my age.

But they all walk out with same little orange bottle that sounds like a rattle. You’d say the same thing. 😂 Chiropractors are working with the musculoskeletal system. It’s different then working with the organic biological chemistry of pharmaceuticals, but also similar. Some chiros attempt to investigate the relationship of the spine and the bio chemistry of the human body. It’s a worthy hypothesis with credence but still an investigation. But as for the musculoskeletal system, chiropractic is top notch Medicine. Thanks for your comment.

You're right. The synovial fluid in the joints allows you to crack anything every 20-30 minutes (called tribonucleation). But what he is doing is releasing the restricted joint that you can't crack yourself. Which then allows you to function better biomechanically and neurologically.

Self adjustment is problematic because the hypermobile segments will release/pop and the segments that are not moving stay unmanipulated. Also Rarely do you ever in these chiropractoic films see the manipulator checking to see what lumbar segments are hypermobile or restrictive before doing a lumbar roll. They just cross the top leg over then twist until the slack is out and wham it. A release was obtained but not very specific. The almighty crack does not necessarily mean the manipulator was skilled. You can manipulate a specific lumbar segment by testing the specific mobility of each segment if you know how. Otherwise you pop the hypermobile segment and the one locked up next to it never got moved. Usually a shotgun force is used to crack 4-5 segments at a time and the hypomobile segment gets popped due to the excessive force thrown through the many segments.

6:15 "I took a bone that was stuck in the wrong position and unstuck it". So was the talus, calcaneus, etc luxated? Subluxated? - How did you infer that? How do you define a sub-luxation? (cause i'm sure there wasn't an actual joint dislocation) - Was there pain or change in gait mechanics? - How do you differentiate between a "subluxation" and normal variability in joint positioning and biomechanics? - Why do you think, if there was a any talar joint dysfunction without a traumatic or sudden injury mechanism, that the same problem won't arise again? What you suggest to solve that problem in the long term? I hope I don't sound aggressive, I respect anyone's work and I know how frustrating it can be to have others doubting what you do. I probably asked way too many questions (lol) that you'd have time to waste on, so if anything, i'd really like to read through a couple of pieces of core literature, if you have any you'd advise someone who leans more towards the skeptic side (at least when viewing effects through more of a biomechanical lens anyays). There are definitely things that are interesting and I'd love to read through some of the core underlying concepts. cheers mate

Bernardo W. Lopes ... The Talus was stuck in the lateral position and was not moving medically during dorsi flexion. The test is simple Passive ROM in the supine position. Compare bilaterally. Reduced ROM indicates either Talus/Calcaneus or Talus/Navicular. Static palpation may reveal edema over top of the involved joint. Then motion palpation in flexion to determine direction of fixation. Regarding subluxation. It’s a worthy effort and investigation, the spinal link to total health. But I do not practice subluxation based chiro. I operate from biomechanics and tonal perspectives. Perhaps subluxation overlaps here. I just prefer clinical investigation based on patient request. I like to fix things. Subluxation based practice does not treat. There are no symptoms. It’s a philosophical discussion. It’s noble. Worthy. And requires a lot more research.

Well done Doc. I do have to ask one question tho. You did a real nice adjustment on the 6th cervical on the left. I thought, nice, he didn’t do what every other Chiropractor does on YT and that is cracking the neck both ways... then you did it. The question is, did it misalign left and right? Or fixate left and right in equal and opposite planes? I’m not trying to be a smart-ass. I really would like to know.
@chiropracticmedicine47
5 жыл бұрын
DrMatt357 ... that’s a really good question. Thanks for being polite. She was fixated primarily at C6 left. The upper cervical right was compensatory. Yes I adjusted it bc she most likely cracks everything in between these two fixations. And it didn’t feel to me as if she had ligament instability. So I removed the secondary fixation. I find there are better, faster results when I just take care of compensations versus leaving them there. It’s not always the case. But it was here.

You're not asking to have a relationship ship with her but merely stating a fact. Some people are too paranoid in my opinion. She should learn to hypnotize because I'd fall right to sleep hahaha.

@@chiropracticmedicine47 You're the expert and I appreciate your reply. I guess what I'm asking is if adjustments "hopefully " last a lifetime, how come our bodies make the same cracking and popping sounds if say, we go back to the chiropractor multiple times in a week after getting an adjustment?
@GummybearOverLord
5 жыл бұрын
The cracking sound isn’t actually the adjustment, it’s the sound of air bubbles being released from the joints. While being active is good, it can also cause misalignment. But being inactive and sitting all the time can cause problems as well. It just depends person to person. Most people can gauge when they need to go back :)

Hey Doc, I crack my upper back using a foam-roller, and do so by rolling over it slowly (with my upper back) while pulling my head to my chest. This causes (I think) my vertebra to separate (or extend) thus cracking and relieving any tension in that region. I am always able to relieve any tension or pain by doing this, but my concern is that I might somehow become too dependant on this as I seem to have to do it more often than before. Is cracking bones through extension rather than applying direct pressure any better? (For example if you crack your fingers by pressing on the finger joint, or by directly pulling your finger).
