Thankyou though, made me stop and think to put my mind into being more careful and aware of my surroundings especially since I am a disabled senior. Again Thank you

Get a stun cane to help walking. It will knock a degenerate on his back. More shocks will knock him out.

Agreed--I'm no expert in the FMA, but anybody who has spent any time studying self-defense with an edged weapon or stick knows they're the "go to" arts. Mr. Janich has distilled these arts down into basic, stress-proof techniques that your average person can learn and actually retain. Plus, as the other person mentioned, his techniques are specifically geared towards self-defense, as opposed to other "stab them to death" type techniques.

Yes finally. You are the first one of these weapon instructors to advocate damaging the hand that holds the weapon. That is fundamental and absolutely basic.

Targeting the knee and ankle areas also reduces the risk of a person grabbing an upper body cane attack and also the knee and ankle attack with a cane goes over better in court with Judge and Jury.

Question though...if I use my cane which I absolutely need how am I to go after someone in ie..the leg, ankle, knee,etc and still be able to keep my balance ..that's WHY I walk with a cane
@gotocustudiofilmsthecheapb3802

@@lynnmariesawicke4828 I suppose you have to get used to balancing with one foot while you attack with your cane. I know that could take a while to get strong enough to do that, but maybe that's doable?

@@lynnmariesawicke4828 I also walk with a cane and I tried carrying two. It actually works well. I think you should still try to get stronger in your legs. But in the meantime you can use one cane for support and use the second one to hit your attacker. The second cane can be lighter and thinner so you can use it with one hand. It can even be just a simple stick or pole.

To sum it up If the attacker has a weapon such a knife or a stick priority to disable his movement first then if you succeed go for the head. But if the attacker has no weapon with him if you see an opening you can go for the head.
@DavidHernandez-dk1zs

No, I think his point is not to go for the head at all, since there is not much point to it. I also would like to add that never hit an unarmed man in the head unless you are prepared to face the consequences of permanently crippling or killing the man. People forget sometimes the awesome power a hardwood stick can produce with a dedicated swing, even a skinny teen can fracture a muscular man's skull with a swing to the head with a stick.

Walking around town with a stick like that is very odd and noticeable. Learn to use a battle cane from www.canemasters.com A cane is about 30 or 40% better than a stick and is legal anywhere in the world and nobody takes notice of it. If I saw some one walking toward me with that stick I would be on the alert. A cane is designated as a medical device not a weapon. A stick is very questionable. 2:47 How are you going to hit an ankle with that short stick? Bend over 90 degrees from the waist?

When you're attacked with a ranged weapon, you know where the attack is coming from; and, unless they are skilled, this is their only thought of attack. I'd much rather be attacked by someone who didn't know what they were doing with a stick than someone with bare hands. That being said: asps and edged weapons, I'm running away.

Chad, range ALWAYS matters. Guns are most effective at a distance, knives and sticks from close up. And I don't think anybody's ever been mugged from across the street. Best bet is to just always pay attention and avoid the trouble to begin with... or to at least know where the cover is for when those pesky snipers show up and start shooting. ;-)
