The discussion is kinda dragging tbh. I would skip intro of phonology, morphology and syntax (can be covered on another video) and jump right away to the definition of semantics plus the disciplines and paradigms.

The sentence tells me that my perceptions of a word determine the understanding I attribute to the sentence. My semantics are different because semantics means meaning and meaning is based on the subjective viewpoint held by the observer.

Nice! That sentence tells me that we need to agree upon meaning of words and phrases to be able to communicate thoughts and ideas as they are meant by the producer of the information.

I now fully understand what is missing in UK education. You have shown my brain a way-- out of the prison cell of Britain's so called education. I will be digesting your videos with out the purpose-built indigestion caused by a third rate imported system. Thank you for the first of your excellent videos.

I suppose the comparative and typological approaches to language are pretty useless then, if we're gonna pretend to skip individual languages and go straight to universals (probably by using English examples, like generativists have been doing since the 50s).

This sentence, I guess, was given by Naom Chomsky. He suggests that the sentence is grammatically correct but semantically it doesn't make sense. He wanted to suggest that meaning is important for the grammatical analysis of any sentence.
