Sounds like a huge stretch to me. But so do all the theories. And all ES lore in general. Probably because I pick up books to open them for skill boosts and then sell them. I'm usually all about story line, but... books. Long... ass... books. I try to read them and then I don't, and then I become traumatized because I almost read a book. I think the first time was Oblivion when I picked up some book and was a few minutes into reading it on page 6 or something and I lost it and hit next to the end and it was like 28 pages. I guess what I'm saying is do 50 times more voice acting and no words at all. It's like, I care enough to play the game and know the story, but just release 100 more DLCs the size of Skyrim itself to explain all the lore. ALSO, that better be the theme of ES6 after a decade and a half of waiting.

Good question. The answer is no. Keep in mind that Bethesda can't take everything that the player can do into account. Especially for mysteries, bc that can make them too easy to solve. Let's say Bethesda did mark Karita as essential, that's not something they do for most NPCs. So, that would draw a huge amount of attention to her, thus this mystery would've been solved many years ago. So, Bethesda has to be careful about things like that to keep mysteries engaging, and lots of ideas for clues don't make it into the game for that reason. For example, in "Is the Sole Survivor a Synth" I mentioned a cut terminal entry called "Unique Project," which I suspect was cut bc it's way too obvious of a clue for that mystery. I'm surprised it even made it into the game files, normally they'd nix an idea like that before ever actually making it. Thank you for watching! 😄

I don't see why it has to be _someone._ It's just some random person. The Dragonborn has returned -- the Greybeards announced it to all of Skyrim. So when a random person learns the Dragonborn was in their city, the send an anonymous letter about a nearby ruin they've heard (through rumor or family legend or whatever) has a dragon wall the Dragonborn might be able to make use of. The fact that any random or isolated location can also be listed is just a fluke of the system Bethesda created.

Before I watch this video I always had one of two theories on who "A Friend" really is. 1. A Friend is Delphine, to my knowledge the letters only become available once you complete the first step towards becoming the Dovahkiin, right after you visit the greybeards. So it only seems reasonable she would easily figure you out and wish to help you progress your journey but making sure you become powerful enough. 2. A Friend is the Ebony Warrior who has heard of you shortly after you became recognized as the Dovahkiin and wants to see you become stronger for when you both eventually meet.

And with her keeping her true identity secret up until the later events of the story, it would make sense that her letters would be "from a friend" As well, she is a blade. It is the job of the blades to serve the dragonborn. It makes absolute sense she would want the dragonborn to be stronger. Who doesnt want a stronger leader?

The point you made about keeping anonimity doesn't completely line up. Delphine's concern is with the Thalmor tracking her down, not with you knowing who she is. So any correspondence she writes would still take safeguards in case of interception. And she still might use correspondence since she doesn't know when you'll next meet. Why wait for you to come to her when she can send you the information as soon as she has it by courier? I do agree on the signature side, though.

The reason why I think they would have a need for secrecy is because the four of them are supposed to be impartial, and direct the Dragonborn along the somewhat vague "Path of Wisdom", and not direct him or her in a way that could be defined as a misuse of power. Perhaps one or more of the three that aren't Arngeir independently see a need for Alduin to be defeated for a time, or at least wants to give the Dragonborn a fighting chance, and don't want to cause strife among them by blatantly signing the letter with their actual name?

i believe the friend would have to be a greybeard, or the middle man to be a greybeard. This is because the courier says, "he didn't say." While this doesn't give a lot of info, it does lead to a theory. They cannot speak due to his voice being to strong for the courier to survive. The greybeards are interested in helping the dragonborn, they are followers of Kyne giving them even more of a reason. When asking about locations of works of power it is described as hearing whisperings of a word before giving you a location, a whisper of a word...for a nearly 100% accurate location, they would most likely know exactly where you shouted at since they would be able to sense it even more strongly than a word. It would be simple for them to hide this since they are known to not interfere with the world, and the only time they did was when you, the dragonborn asked to help with a peace negotiations. Out of all possible people to want the dragonborn to grow, only one of the greybeards have the materials to write a letter in their inventory, wulfgar incase you're wondering.as to why wulfgar would hide his identity, one reason is the greybeards are known for not interfering in the world, so even though they have the strength to whatever they want, no jarl or king is worried about them. Because they are known to be peace lovers, they would be thought to only be teaching you control over you're thuum, not helping you become too much stronger as that could cause chaos. So if they wanted you to become stronger as the friend, or even a middle man, they would need to remain anonymous. There are a few more things i can add to prove this theory but my comment is way to long as it is. Please let me know what you think. Last few words to sum this up. In my opinion, they are a middleman of kyne, based of of the he didn't say line, and if there is no divine friend then they are the ones with the most reasoning to remain anonymous while having the ability to find and help you discover the shouts without seeing you in person. With a divine friend: middleman Without a divine friend: the friend

Honestly a lot of the Kyne theory can boil down to coincidence and worship. If she is a devout worshipper of Kyne who also just so happens to have convenient physical attributes, that would explain many of the details about her. The circlet could be a family heirloom, perhaps from a time when one of her ancestors was a jarl. As for the matter of why Bethesda would go to such lengths to design a character and then not use them for anything other than the one instance, keep in mind that game development is not a linear thing. It very well could be that they intended the character to show up again later, but that this ended up becoming cut content and they decided to have her show up as a cameo so that their work didn't entirely go to waste. Personally, I still subscribe to they Greybeards theory, because it's the one that has the hardest evidence to debunk and still makes a lot of sense when you consider it. -One of the Greybeards carries paper and charcoal around with them. -The Greybeards can sense when the Dragonborn shouts, and from where. -The Greybeards can sense word walls. -The Greybeards have a great interest in remaining a neutral party in world events. They tend to want to keep to themselves, and are wise and humble. There's an entire part of the main questline if the Civil War remains unresolved in which the Greybeards take some serious convincing to even allow a meeting between factions at High Hrothgar to negotiate a temporary cease fire. As such, it makes sense that they would be interested only in steering the Dragonborn in the right direction to grow their power, and not take credit for it. As much is even evident at the end of the main questline in which Master Arngeir speaks to the Dragonborn about their ultimate destiny being their own to decide. They only ever train the Dragonborn directly on a few occasions, and only to give them basic essentials that they will need to explore and prosper. Additionally, they may be taking into consideration that the Dragonborn might not keep/destroy the letters, and they wouldn't want anyone else to learn that they were assisting the Dragonborn either for the same reason.

i will say the Kyne stuff is good, but this still leaves out a couple of relevant conditions for a candidate to be the real Friend, for example how you can get letters from a friend about having shouted once in really weird places, like the Dark brotherhood sanctuary or the Thieves guild or similar gated/restricted locations that have physical/and or magical protection from outisders (this is real btw I got a letter from shouting at Astrid in the falkreath sanctuary once). If Karita is A friend, how could she possibly know we shouted in there? I do feel like this might be reason why Hermaeus Mora makes some more sense, as the Daedric Prince of knowledge like him could be kinda omnipresent to nullify this weird condition that otherwise cancels out most candidates to my mind, but since Kynareth is a goddess i guess it's possible but just weird she's paying attention to you shouting in such random places that aren't really cause for concern. I will also say this all hinges on Bethesda being smart enough to have an actual answer to this question but that kinda ruins the fun of theorizing so who cares. another more lame option is multiple people we know write the letters to explain all the weird locations the letter can remember you shouting in but that raises the writing style question again because surely these people would not all write their letters the exact tsame way and all sign anonymously the same way too. food for thought I guess?

I like this theory better than most of the others and is similar to mine. I think that Meridia is behind the letters and has a follower send them for her. My reason is that she is the Goddess of light and Energies, she doesn't like the undead being raised and will intervene in mortal affairs to destroy the undead. Alduin is raising Dragons back from the dead on a large scale, this would make Meridia step in to aid the Dragonborn to nudge them towards unlocking more power to defeat the darkness of Alduin. From a lore perspective the Dragonborn will be a Hero and champion of the people like the The Hero of Kvatch in Oblivion and the Nerevarine from Morrowind, the Dragonborn won't be a stealth archer or whatever we create. I do like your theory about Kyne and it fits a little better than mine, I do believe that it's one of the God's or Goddesses or maybe a group of them helping the Dragonborn. Might even be Talos himself helping the Dragonborn is another idea that I had.

That woman that’s tied to the quest. I had my suspicions about her being kind for a long time for probably about 3 to 4 years that I’m playing the game since 2013 when I kind of thought about it I did a few quest linked to kine

But there is one problem with this theory is she’s a God that’s using a human identity. Wouldn’t she be Unkillable by the troll nearby if you go a little further up towards the graybeards fortress, there will be a troll, and if you don’t fight the troll back and let the troll follow you, the troll will kill her. I’ve tested that though

im not entirely sold on this for a few reasons .... the first is that karita will send hired thugs after you if you pickpocket her ... another is that if we go with delphine being the sender it still makes sense considering she needs to keep the blades anonymous she signs her letters off with "a friend" so the dragonborn knows its her without it actually saying its her , the capital F and -- im sure is bethesda themselves being inconsistent (as they always are)

Alright, as someone who has played the majority of the game without ever activating any of these letters. I'm going to say that your theory is 100% accurate... I did pretty much everything you could do in that game without ever activating that quest. So I have never known anything I always role play characters that have zero magic access... So my characters have scientific herb potions to help me survive.. and no enchantments on weapons... I never even knew this was a thing.. And because of that, I can only get so far in the main story while doing all the other side quests and stories.. before eventually hitting a wall so I never even knew this was a thing or even a mystery... As I've never unlocked the ability to even do a shout.. Basically I find this extremely interesting.. That my lame way of playing the game helps push this theory from 99% to 100%... I'm going to finally bother abandoning my no magic policy this year on a new character and try to see the main story for a change..

Something I feel to be very contradictory is that based on lore, all of the Gods and Goddesses lost their mortal connection to nirn when saving it, and only the Dadreic Prince's have the ability physically interact with nirn. To support this, the Gods and Goddesses would not use alternative methods if they could physically stop the Prince's. They would put their physical bodies on the line instead of everyone and everything they wished to protect. At least, that's what I gather.

Thanks for watching! There are actually a few different claims about the current status and location of the Aedra, and what you have here is indeed one of them. There are few others, off the top of my head one is that they became the other planets in Mundus, and another is that they just roam Mundus. The reason I lean on the latter is bc I believe that Karita is Kyne, at least part of her. I'm currently undecided about the planets, I think they may be large chunks of divine power that the Et'ada left as a reserve source. Maybe one day I'll have more to share with you 😄. Also, all the theories could be true about at least one Aedra. Perhaps Arkay lost his connention to Nirn like you said, Stendarr became a planet, etc, 🤷♂.

Reading the letters bring out obvious people that You can think of who would send you a letter seeking a word of power and that would only be the people that know the Dragonborn main story wise Via the grey beards or Delphine/members of the blades unknown to us that might still be alive because both of those factions are possibly the only ones that know that words of power lie deep within the Draugr tombs and each letter explicitly states going to a tomb to solidify it being Delphine I think a friend is a cover term so the thalmor can’t trace the letter the grey beards could also be trying to aid you but given there pacifist nature I doubt it’s truly them Also this theory was brought many times over media but never truly went in depth because it was just an obscure part of Skyrim everyone only glances at and moves on

It'd be cool if Bethesda would confirm any correct theories. Honestly, I think it's cool when any devs confirm accurate theories. Only problem is, like with God Of War, some KaptainKuba theories (or even imo, at least one of my ideas inspired by his) are probably cooler than what was intended lmao.

I think a game made by a countless number of collaborating people wouldn't have the cohesion to do any of this- or plant a conspiratorial character for a subject that isn't imperative to the story.

What if it’s the Emperor or Amaund Monteirre that is sending the letters? Someone of authority within the Empire would have motive to enable the growth of a Dragonborn, which is to save the Empire from collapse

Got another weird one Alduin Remember the destiny of alduin is to die, and come back, and become the world eater Except we find out Alduin didn’t die, just got sent forward in time Further you don’t take his soul. You are the one helping, not stopping, his destiny. Alduin sees you as a friend All the chances to kill you at Helgan but no, he clears your path.
