The tip on not putting the tips all the way on was very good indeed. I cut a 2-3 mm piece off one of the smallest tips that I will never use and put it on the nozzles to prevent the ones I use from going all the way on when I push them in my ears. What an amazing difference! Thanks so much for the solution to this problem which has bugged me from day one.

The IE900 are the Holy Grail of personal listening. I have never heard anything better than these, and I just sold my HD800S's because I couldn't listen to them anymore after listening to the IE900. That should give you some idea of how good they are. The fit is critical to the sound quality and can be a problem for some people. They are worth every penny.

Interesting… I’m very impressed with the IE 900, but it doesn’t do some things as well as my 800 S. The sub-bass is better than any can I’ve heard, except that ZMF Atrium Closed. But, that’s not a fair comparison against giant cans lol

I've been walking about 4 miles a day for the last week since I got them. I am just blown away with how good they sound. Streaming Qobuz with IFI Gryphon, Fiio Q5s, even the Btr5. Tried Bluetooth and wired, they just sound good on everything. But more than how good they are across the spectrum, its the comfort that does it for me. Tried to tip roll a bit and ended back with the foam tips they came with for the best seal. Also, there's some kind of foam inserted into the stock tips that relaxes the upper region. What I find odd is the tuning is nothing like the Senn over ear headphones- I mean, none I've heard. Pricy but worth it.

I think I found out a little tweak that make the ie 900 overall more balanced, reducing that shimmer and void in the lower mids...I only have spinfits at the moment but what I did was take out the little foam piece in one of the stock eartips using the included tool. Once I shoved it inside the spinfit, everything was more balanced and it just finally clicked for me. The downside that I hear, which isn't really a downside depending on preference, is that bass is boosted slightly. Try it out and let me know what you think Lachlan!

Haha unfortunately we cannot disassemble the stock eartips on the unit Sennheiser has given us, but we will definitely keep this in mind and experiment further...

@@MinidiscAu I see, understood. I've been spending more time with the foams in and I think this is definitely the way to go. Also, I found out that there are two types of foam filters with different densities. The ones inside the stock foam tips are more dense while the ones in the silicone tips aren't. In general, the dense filters were much more intimate while the less dense filters were more balanced while keeping engagement...

Coming from Shure SE846, I'm more tempted to think about the EMPIRE EARS ESR MKII. I just want to be sure that it's enough of an upgrade from what I already have at present. Quite nervous to make the jump tbh.
@SONJOY77721

The Sennheiser ie800s are an upgrade from the Shure se846 way up there with the best in the business- frequency response! of kHz- low end bass 5! and high end treble 46,500. I owned The Shure and currently own The ie800. It’s really no contest. The se846 have a boomy bass! But It’s not buttery beautiful tight fantastic! Plus you miss highly detailed cymbals with the se846. I had both and extensively compared the two. Listen to The Monkees DayDream Believer, you should be able to hear the alarm clock in the beginning of the song ringing very clear! not muffled. For a bass test, listen to Micheal Jackson’s Billie Jeans other worldly bass rendition on The ie800s!! The ie900s will blow you away! to possibly the point of tears. Ha!

The ESR MKII is great, but delivers quite a flatter sound compared to the SE846, which has more colour to the bass and mids. It depends on where you want to go from the SE846! For something more similar to the SE846 but with better technical performance, we would tend to the recommend the 64 Audio Nio or CA Solaris.

@@MinidiscAu I certainly don't want too much extra colour. But would certainly upgrade for better technical performance. Whatever I bought, I'd want to be so good that I personally could call it an end-game IEM if that makes sense.

I had the pleasure to have a side by side comparison between the new ie600, ie900 and Andromeda on dongle and fiio BTR7 with Lachlan & Wing the other day. Coming from Hd800s I couldn't pass on the ie900 at all. The vocals and some treble can get a tiny bit too bright, but that can be dulled down a little with foam earpiece or slight eq; What I couldn't get over however, was that sound stage. When they sound like they're right beside you singing into both ears *chefs kiss*

It’s better then the 846 in every way but it’s also more fatiguing. But a lot of other iem out perform the 846 even tho they may not do the sub bass as good they still sound overall better. This one has better bass then the 846 and everything else

I use IE800 which stopped working after 4 years. Ive spent an hour on a phone with new Sennheiser owners service people to figure out how to deal with this. It looks like they may try to replace 800 with 900, but make me to pay something around or over thousand dollars. That means they set up will cost me over $2000 for the headphones. Very frustrating. The size they don’t have a stock and they have no idea when the stock will become available. It is essentially renting the headphones at a cost of about $250 a year. Very wrong!
