Very cool. I just built 5 of my own single zone triggers for $5 out of some piezos I got from a thrift store. Then I spent the last 3 months programming a system in Max/MSP & Ableton to run audio->CV->MIDI. I am absolutely going to pick up one of these triggers when I can afford it! These would go so well with what I have developed. I trigger samples but more importantly, I can create arpeggios and melodies on a bunch of different synths via drum strikes. All of the possible notes conform in real time to any in coming MIDI data too, so when I jam with a key/synth player, the synths I control with always be in key with the MIDI master. I can't wait to have enough saved up to get one of these sensors! This would take my stuff the a new level!

and in what ways does the actual acoustic Drum kit choice now matter to ones playing? we add the triggers, but the acoustic feel and sound to the drumkit, does that still matter to the artists who used this? the type of shells, wood types, the hoops? how do they effect the playing when connected to the Evans, the tuning and so on?

There are some interesting comments here. I have a traditional trigger system that I sometimes use on my acoustic set(Canopus RFM) with great chops I might add. I think what sensory percussion has done here is just give professionals another tool for expression. what’s in your toolbox? You can got two choices you can be the general contractor or you can be the Architect (of sound)

And what about the physical sound of the instrument? Seems confusing and here you dont let us listen the whole thing that the drummer listens..
@SunhouseInc

Hi 3hARIS ! In this video, the drummers are playing on mesh heads, which are almost silent when you hit them. They're wearing headphones that play back the triggered samples, so you are hearing exactly what they're hearing.

i can't really agree that it's unprecedented...I mean come on now, triggers and modules have been around since the 80s. where you been?

Hi Rex Bean, thanks for checking out Sensory Percussion. SP is not anything like a typical trigger/module. It can do things like blend between samples, control continuous effects, track gestures like stick shots & cross sticks (up to 10 sound zones per drum with 1 sensor all on a single mono cable). The list goes on. All of those things are impossible with traditional triggers. Check it out.

Sunhouse dude, no, triggers have been able to do that for a while. youre not anything special, acoustic drum sounds will always be better in every way.

Acoustic drum sounds are better in every way? So if I'm looking for a good 808 kick drum or hi hat sound, the best way is with acoustic drum sounds? If I want something that sounds like a super slowed down amen-break sample, should I use acoustic drums? What if I want a guitar or synth pad sound? Acoustic drums? What if I want the sound of a car crash or a sample of movie dialogue? Acoustic drums? It's hard to play drums and a laptop or sampler/effect pedals at the same time (I know from experience), and the typical trigger doesn't have anywhere near the position/velocity-mapping potential on a single drumhead that this seems to. This is why the modern electronic kits have a bunch of tiny senors in them. But to have the ability to combine that with your own acoustic kit is a dream. I bet you could even find a way to use it as a trigger to live sample/process your acoustic drumming. My only concern would be the amount of acoustic bleed into triggered sounds, but I guess that's the concern with all drum-triggering. But I'll never find out since I'd probably have to sell all my current equipment to get it.

NOT GROUNDBREAKING AT ALL!!! What a joke the acoustic drum sound is loud as hell this video is a total scam they're only showing you the triggered sounds what about the natural acoustic sounds that are overpowering the trigger sounds, this is really a deceptive video, you still need electronic drum if you are to get rid of the loud acoustic drum sound????
@SunhouseInc

Hi Bill, thanks for checking out the video. No deception here at all -- we are using mesh heads in the video, so the sound of the drum is in fact quiet. It's definitely possible to use sensory percussion with mesh heads and not have the acoustic sound of the drum overpower the electronics - granted you need a good PA or headphones. Check out our other videos for more examples of our people are using Sensory Percussion.
