The Oisans is a busy tourist destination, mostly known for cycling up the Alpe d'Huez with its 21 hairpin bends.
But today I escape the tourists and hike up the 32 hairpin bends of the old path to Auris, the Cheminée above the Gorges de l'Infernet.
The sentier de la Fayolle is an intercommunal path connecting Auris with Armentier. Now there is the route departementale, but before it was only possible to get to one village to the other via this path, avoiding the Rochers d'Armentier that lie on the steep slopes under the path.
It is a suspenseful walk on lose ground, crossing several ravines.
The end of the day is a real joy. The walk follows on old GR, with fixed cables, steeply towards the cascade de Sarenne, back to Bourg d'Oisans.
To get to the start of the walk, at the end of the tunnel des Commères on the main road to Briançon, I tried my luck and got a lift from Bourg d'Oisans within 5 minutes.
Pascal Sombardier published this walk on his blog, please visit the website to find a detailed description:
