As a 70 year old Ashkenazi male, I have never heard Sephardic or Ladino Jewish music until recently. I LOVE it! It takes me to the Mediterranean and the Middle East from my own living room. The lamentation of the Jewish soul, as well as the joyous spirit, I see from an entirely new perspective. The kinship, and hardship, of the Jewish, Muslim, and Roma peoples are experiences that can be conveyed to the rest of the world in our music.

The moroccan king Mohammed the 5th reportedly refused to sign off on efforts by Vichy officials to impose anti jewish legislation upon Morocco and deport the country's 250,000 Jews to their deaths in Nazi camps and extermination camps in Europe. He even stood in their face and told them, if you want to take my citizens, you"ll have to take me first.

It's so cool to see how Jewish music sounds all over the world. My family is from Lithuania so I grew up listening to klezmer music in Yiddish. I love that even though Jewish music from Morocco takes on the unique sounds of North African music, I can still hear familiar motifs that sound like what my family listened to. It's fascinating to see how cultural traditions can change and evolve in so many unique ways :)

Since I first heard this a few years ago I thought it was one of the most wonderful, beautiful, and incredible groups of people singing and playing together. My wife was very much into dance including traditional belly dance. She never had the chance to hear this when she felt well enough and she passed a year an half ago. But this music really makes me think of Brenda and I listening to world music from so many places and cooking food of the world together. I could not comment for years because of disabled comments which I well understand. Now I can say what a treasure this is in my life of music.

This performance is a huge favorite of mine! About two and a half minutes into the performance you begin to hear a transition into Los Biblicos and at about three they launch into this beautiful song. All the singers and musicians here perform so beautifully. Richard Farina, an American folk singer/song writer visited Spain in the 1960s and adapted this lovely melody in his "A Swallow Song" (recorded on the album "Reflections in a Crystal Wind.")

This music is amazing. One can hear the Arabic Muslim musical notes being played to the rhythm of flamenco beat. It’s a great fusion of music. Thanks for this video God bless you all.

Joie. Alegría. Enyoy. Merci. Gracias. Thanks . Paix.

Extraordinary combination of music, song and dance! Outstanding singers, musicians and dancers! A very high expression of Beauty! I only know the names of two singers: Francoise Atlan and Bahaa Ronda. Does anybody know the names of the other two singers, the harpist in blue behind the singers, and the guitarist in black at front?

The first song is actually called "La Rosa Enflorese" and is a very well known Sephardic song. You can find many different versions on KZitem, iTunes or CD.
