On the surface, it seems unfriendly to customers for Sephora to have evolved its rewards program in this way. There may be a compelling reason, such as cost control and focus on other strategic aspects (e.g. territory expansion), for the program changes. Since Sephora is owned by LVMH, LVMH's overall goals may have some amount of influence on Sephora's decisions. Anyway, Sephora has always been more about prestige and exclusivity (think of how many times they have sales vs Ulta), whereas Ulta has focused on accessible price points. In a post-panini world, in which a lot of us have reduced our cosmetics spending due to work-from-home and budget reasons, Ulta makes more sense for a lot of people.

Your new lighting/camera setup looks fantastic and I love the recurring 'hi, it's me _______' bit. Man, I wish we had Ulta. I mostly only shop in Sephora in person and only to buy Sephora Collection or test/swatch things. Honestly, 'perks' and rewards schemes are not usually things I pay attention to. Every time I get a 'spend more to save more!' ad, I want to scream 'that's not how it wooooorks!!' lol. Sales benefit a company more than they benefit a consumer - we should not have to spend €1000 for the privilege of cutting their warehousing costs. Not to mention most points schemes are just small renumeration for allowing them to sell our consumer data to other companies/agencies. I love a good sale and % discount but I am not going to spend (extra) money to get it. At end of day, they are still making huge profit from us. Grandpa Simpson tangent: Cigarette companies used to have tokens in packets that could be exchanged for 'rewards' - my father smoked enough to get my grandmother a colour television. And also enough that he passed away when I was in my 20s. A supermarket ran a rewards token scheme and that is how my highschool got ✨️A Computer ✨️ It took 12 million tokens and we must have pooled the purchasing power of the entire town. It took us *weeks* to count them all up and I personally counted 1.2 million and got a free book for my efforts. That year, the supermarket announced record profits and was regarded as the 'free school equipment supermarket' for over a decade afterwards. Sooo... yeah. These rewards/perks cost companies little or nothing compared to profits generating from them. It is pure greed and penny-pinching when they remove them.

I'm sorry to hear about your father. Those token schemes sound similar to the lotteries in the US. The funds supposedly go to education and road repair, but it''s really just legalized gambling. Few, if any, ever win the mega millions

@@MaggiesMakeupMedley thank you, Maggie. Thankfully, most countries no longer allow promotions like that for products like tobacco or alcohol. However, due to lobbying, there is more advertising for gambling than ever. Wow, I did not know that gambling was illegal in some places (states?) in America. Is the points sweepstakes not regarded as gambling there? I think all tiered rewards are like a form of gambling: betting more money now on chance it will save you even more money next year. The #1 advertising tactic that usually snares me is 'spend X amount for free international shipping' Or PMG's 40% off sales, lol.

@@richardwright9292 Gambling technically got legalized last year where I live and suddenly every ad on earth was for those sports betting apps. Those are so predatory. Only a matter of time before it starts ruining lives

@@MaggiesMakeupMedley all I can say is... 'good luck'. Everywhere I have lived that decriminalised gambling - people went bananas, and a lot of political corruption did happen too. Poland is quite funny because majority of large gambling establishments are owned by the government - taking 'gambling is a tax on the poor' very literally. Sports and betting apps were legalised 5 years ago, many people turned to them during that... situation... that started in 2020. So many things such as arcades, funfairs, gachapon, blind bags, booster packs etc. all prime people to be susceptible to 'real' gambling. I am glad our Sephora does not have a points sweepstakes, that is so much money to lose! Wages here are around 20% of US wages, so that would be equivalent gambling $5000+

@@richardwright9292 Lotteries are un by the state and federal government here too. How weird that we both seem to live in a place that taxes the poor for trying to... not be poor

I was down to ordering from them once a year just to get my birthday gift but half a year later I still don’t want to buy from them. The shady but not so hidden in the shade way they piggy back off of all of Ultas sales just turned me the F off. Yes make another Sephora rant video please. We can also talk about the influencers they decide to pay instead so they can I guess influence us to spend our money there. We can support them instead with the affiliate links. Yeah no.

One interesteing thing is there online sessions/classes. They cost 100 points but you get something from the brand and sometimes something from sephora. I "took" a freck class and basically got their freck for free and an air plant from sephora lol. Great value for 100 points since it was the (tiny) full size so $22 value plus the cute little plant!
