The City of New Bern, in partnership with the Firemen's Museum, hosted a September 11th Memorial Event this year at Memorial Park, 420 Broad Street, right next to the museum. The event included a welcome and introduction by Johnathan Gaskins, Fire Marshal, and special remarks by Robert "Bobby" Boyd, Fire Chief (Retired), New Bern Fire-Rescue. It also included a wreath-laying. Buddy Williams, who retired from New Bern Fire-Rescue, explained the tradition of the bell ringing signifying everyone had made it home after calls for service. The event ended with bagpipes by Lt. D. Dubay, New Bern Police Department & remarks by David Finn of the Firemen's Museum. We thank everyone who attended and joined us to reflect on the 9/11 attacks, to remember and honor the victims and their families who live with grief, and to unite for a better tomorrow.
