i think the only good think of design based with sheet cuts with cnc machines is making half bulkheads, one smaller than the next so with a single sheet you can have all boat bulkheads, and all the square parts made of 4 segments to be joined so again you can use few sheets without leftovers. cnc can cut typical carpenter dovetail joints and mark a number in all the pieces to be assembled correctly, however those small parts sustain longitudinal forces and require placing directional plies rather than sheet cutting and the hull requires plies placed in x 45º angle to sustain torsional forces, for that reason normal reclaimed wood thin plies is better than marine stacked ply thick sheets because you can cut then with cnc and glue each thin plies with bio epoxy and is unidirectional, so you can cut following the wood grain, personalize thickness for each part and combine grain axis as its the case of 45º for the hull which sheets must be placed in x. also core construction is lighter than ply, you can make any kind of core or multicore with any kind of material, including reclaimed wood, or recycled plastic with silica, basalt or plant fiber. in all cases all the boats must have a last thin ply of aluminium to protect from solar degradation and mandatory hull shading cloth when the boat is stationed

This principle is the basis for the design, but there must be a compromise between the size of parts and strength, small parts can be placed on sheets with minimal loss of material, but it is difficult to ensure the strength of a structure consisting of small parts.

@@UNIKYACHTS yes, and for that reason there are available cnc end mills for all kind of woodworking joints and rails so all parts can be assembled tight, for example you can make an horizontal axis dovetail joint instead the vertical axis dovetail joint that can be made with typical straight end mill

@@UNIKYACHTS yes those are vertical axis or perpendicular dovetail joint but if you want to make a bulkhead or square pieces with 4 parts with thick materials maybe you can use horizontal axis dovetail instead, like joining windows frames, and you can attach those end mills to cnc machines. this works to join reinforced epoxy or plastic pieces too, for 3d printing, etc. however i m having a different approach and i'm currently designing a 6.5 m x 2.8m sailboat using recycled plastic, and pallet wood thin plies and honeycomb core, or maybe only selfmade basalt fiber, i'm using reinforced recycled PP tubular compression structure in all the hull (like fishing rods) and UHMWPE ropes in tension to reduce boat weight, and multi thin core hull with recycled HDPE, also foils instead keel and two freestanding masts to reduce heeling forces and make it more pitch stable, this type of tubular structure design was published by dykstra shipyard in a scientific paper about topology optimization software in one of their ships www.google.com/search?q=THE+46M+SAILING+YACHT+EXO:+STRUCTURAL+DESIGN+INSPIRED+BY+NATURE&newwindow=1&client=firefox-b-d&sxsrf=ALeKk01JKbinPezmFQ3o2JiOTnZ-BZTBLQ:1622959819556&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwi0yp28rILxAhUNyxoKHb48BZ8Q_AUoAXoECAEQAw&biw=1333&bih=648

Your thoughts are mostly correct, but covering the boat with aluminum sheets is controversial and technologically extremely difficult. In addition, you are missing the main factor, this is the simplicity of design, my boats can be assembled by anyone, the boat is available even to people who have never had any experience in building boats. The boats I'm designing are a large 3D puzzle with sails and a cabin. My boats look modern, stylish, safe and have a lot of safety. And they are easily and quickly built.
