people who sign in daily life are probably great spellers

Main points: 1) always slide, not tap with double letters while finger-spelling 2) try to keep a steady hand with finger-spelling 3) 10:35 (go slow and pick speed up as you learn) 4) Clarity>> speed

Thank you so much for these informative and humorous instructions. I have always wanted to learn ASL and your approach has bridged the gap. Small incremental daily lessons have finally shown me a way forward. I look forward everyday to see whats next. I have a couple friends who are jumping on board and have subscribed as well. Fantastic Videos, I cant wait to use what I've learned. I personally do not know of anyone who is Deaf, but the world has opened and It would be wonderful to expand my friendships.

You also have to realize that everyone's hands are different. Some, like me, can't exactly make a perfect shape with letters or rest the knuckles or fingers a certain way but I'm sure it's enough that a deaf person would understand me if I were to talk with them. Also! It's a little easier for a female to fingerspell than a male. What I mean is, a female's finger are smaller and slimmer which looks better when signing than a man that has wide or big or even crooked knuckles like me. I do the best I can.

Yeah I have joint issues and sometimes I can't quite get my finger joints the way they're suppose to lol. But the point is to do your best and be understood. Learning a language isn't about becoming fluent really, it's about wanting to be understood by other people :)

I have a question about fingerspelling. When I first learned, I was taught to spell a word continuously, without halting between letters. Later when I was working with a tutor, I was told there should be a slight pause after each syllable. Thoughts? Also, how would the pause after syllable look vs. the pause between finger spelled words? Thanks.

How do you get to the practice prompts on Instagram? I've made an account, requested a "follow" from @aslrochelle, and have not been accepted.
