I’m not sure if the last sentence is correct. If it’s true what the politicians in Serbia say, 10.000 tones will be extracted, but not exported. They are planning to process the ore and produce bateries in Serbia. Probably some Chinese companies will invest

No one wants to process that, since processing is the worst part.

If countries like Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, UK (Breturn) wanted to (re)join, they would become members almost instantly. Ex-communist countries must complete the transition process first.

Government of Serbia has signed a memorandum of understanding with the European Union on strategic partnership over sustainable raw materials, battery supply chains and electric cars and has launched open public campaign pushing for lithium minig in Serbia although explicit opposition against such mining was expressed during election process by the same Government, having in mind that citizens have clearly expressed their opposition against lithium mining both via signed petitions, demonstrations, and via publications presenting the dangers related to the proposed lithium mining. Danger of environmental disaster is key concern related to the suggested lithium mine which is located in densely populated agricultural area rich with water, ground water and feryile soil. To gain better understanding on existing environmental consequence which is preceding the mine opening kindly refer to article published by Nature titled The influence of exploration activities of a potential lithium mine to the encironment in Western Serbia which is showcasing substantially elevated downstream concentrations of boron, arsenic, and lithium in nearby rivers as compared to upstream regions. Second concern is related to reasonable suspision of attempted foreign neocolonial plundering of Serbian resources having in mind that mining fee paid to Serbia will not exceed 5% of exploited ore, while more than 90 percent will be ownee by foreign exploiter who is paying fee not based on the volume of exploitation but based on reported profit by foreign company with no existing government control over exploitation volume nor over the authenticity of reported profit. Government has already officially promised public expert dialog to adddress all concerns but is now avoiding to start the promised public expert dialog.
