Serena is so incredibly gifted, and not just athletically. That return at 3:03 is insane. How does she find these wicked angles from outta nowhere? Her touch is one of the best and it's really underrated since she's such a powerful player.

Yeah people always talk about her power as her main strength but even her dad talked about how she was incredible at shotmaking. It is how she constructs points and opens the courts and hits cleanly down the line or across to the corners

that was the thing that venus never had, serena without power would still be an incredible player in her prime, she saw the court like hingis did.

Nice match. Serena was on a winning streak there...AO, Paris indoors, Miami and then Charleston Final.

Just look at that return on the first point. It was a good, angled serve and Serena had the agility to return it with interest and gain control of the point. Serena in her prime was so hard to get out of position, her speed was uncanny.

Nice to see young Marion. The ingredients were already there, but the recipe still had to come together. The point at 4:50 is a nice example, the way she steps into the backhand and really goes for it at 4:59. Of course, Serena here was incredible, the power and athleticism.

No wonder Marion Bartoli retired 9 weeks after winning Wimbledon. She does a lot of reaching for the ball during her service and going hit it. Must have been in agony.

This Serena Vs Naomi Osaka... who will win?

Obviously Serena. Serena was holding all 4 majors at this point and had to contend with players like Venus, Henin, Clijsters, Davenport, Hingis, Seles and Capriati. Meanwhile Osaka has never reached the 4th round of Wimbledon or the French Open and wins Slams by beating players like Brady, Kontaveit, Keys, Hsieh, Tsurenko, Svitolina, Sabalenka and Azarenka who has been irrelevant and past her prime since 2014 in the second week of Slams.

@@regulusarcturus you can’t tell that Azarenka wasn’t at her best during that US Open. You also can’t tell that Kvitova is an easy opponent. Serena in 2002 - 2003 also was obviously not as good as in 2012 - 2016. I am routing for Osaka.

@@gregoryoleynik1544 Azarenka was way past her prime in 2020 and reached the final after being in some good form and the competition being deflected due to Covid. She has been nowhere near her best since 2013. And no, Osaka would stand no chance against peak Serena. Osaka has a high peak but she is one dimensional, Serena is not.

@@regulusarcturus I think Azarenka played some of the best and aggressive tennis of her life. Peak Serena was in 2012 - 2016, 2002 - 2003 was nowhere near that. Of course peak Serena from 2012 would’ve destroyed each and every tennis player, but not from 2002 - 2003.

@@gregoryoleynik1544 Serena was much better in 2002-2003 than in 2014-2016, lol. She won 5 of 6 Slams she competed in those two years and against players like Venus, Henin, Clijsters, Hingis, Davenport, Capriati and Mauresmo. She was injured throughout most of 2016 and a mess in 2014.

Good to see the atrocious technique of Bartoli put in its rightful place.
