I've sat here crying watching that. Thank God we have footage of them dancing together. An impossible love.

After i saw this as a kid, i became Margot obsessed. i studied her arms, face everything. I've seen so many versions of this....nothing compares to their sincerity and connection with each other. They sweep you into their world....isn't that what ballet is all about!

I have to say that this music by Prokofiev and the most beautiful dancing by the divine Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev absolutely takes my breath away. I was so blessed to have been able to witness many of their performances at the Met. Some of my most thrilling moments!

One of the extremely rare kisses in ballet. It was a mutual decision between Fonteyn and Nureyev that the scene was so passionate, it needed a kiss.

I saw them perform Romeo & Juliet, and Swan Lake at the Shrine Auditorium in LA, in the 1960's. Thrilling! We also went to the stage door, after, and my sister got Margot Fonteyn's autograph.

just wonderful. though i prefer russian dancers from this era, there is no better pairing than fonteyn and nureyev in romeo and juliet. just so perfect, so real. amazing how she could still portray a teenage girl and make it completely believable well into her 50's.
This version of Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet was choreographed by Kenneth MacMillan for Christopher Gable and Lynn Seymour in 1965 when they were both in the Royal Ballet in London. They were very disappointed when the debut performance was given to Nureyev and Fonteyn. Gable and Seymour were 100 times better at the ballet and really brought it to life, made it passionate. Wish there was a video of them.

it is not that they did a better but a very passionate and different kind of freedom. but margot rocks. i love to watch her. she is so light and free and i love that she is like 50 years old or something and he is so young. i hear he really helped improv her technique even at her age. that is cool. u can teach an old dog new tricks!!

This woman (in her late 29's/early 30's ?) is dancing in the role of a 13 year old girl experiencing her first real love - written by a middle aged, middle class, Elizabethan man - and it is totally convincing. HOW GOOD IS THAT !!! Nury is great too.
