Yeah it just shines a light that Coco's path was doomed from the beginning, specially with how Japan deals with open expressions as an idol. Idols in Japan are very restricted and heavily moderated in how they behave and do, so Coco's nature was already in a decline from the moment she started in Hololive. Sadly Japan has this very limited mindset in this regard of artistic expression with certain disciplines. (I'm not saying Japanese culture its at fault but its one of the many set backs with the cancel culture in general and KZitem as well).

@@DaimonAnimations To be fair, Coco wasn't originally supposed to be an idol. She set out to work at Cover, but not as a Talent. They pretty much threw the job at her since she already had experience as a streamer. The fact someone "not Japanese"* was given the part already made a lot of enemies. East Asian countries alone are rife with xenophobic people and distrust of foreigners, especially Japan and China. *The whole "gaijin" thing, being half-Japanese and not being born in Japan.

as sad as i am that she's graduating, coco speaking her mind about what led her to said decision makes me feel more at peace with it. hearing her say that she started losing her passion, and realizing that her mindset wasn't what she wanted it to be makes me all the more glad she decided to take the first step towards her own happiness. there's truly nothing more suffocating than being stuck in a spiral of comparing yourself to others. i'm sure it wasn't an easy decision to make; having to leave what she once had so much passion for. however, passion can run dry, and what once brought you happiness may no longer do so. i cannot express how much i admire her mentality. she acknowledges negative feelings, but says "whatever" and moves forward, while putting in the effort to be better. as tough of a pill it is to swallow, this would be the end of this chapter of her life. coco is truly a strong woman, and i don't doubt that her future endeavors hold something much, much brighter.

You kinda have to respect the guts it takes to confidently step out of such a lucrative and successful position, and these clips over the last period make it pretty clear it's quite a considered combination of factors that led to the decision rather than anything super dramatic or problems within Hololive/her personal life. Regardless of her assured success with whatever she has planned it's a big move but clearly one that was necessary to avoid burnout, and pulling the trigger on that takes confidence and maturity.

What else did you think it was? she wasn't held at gunpoint to leave lol. When someone willfully "graduates" ofc its for their own good, don't forget this is their job, and not an independent one, you don't quit just cause it occurred to you one day, you take into consideration everything before making any move. And you wont quit without having some better opportunity or at least path you want to take, both of which are very positive reasons to leave. I understand its sad to know we wont have more chaotic dragon streams, but from the beginning it was pretty obvious this was a positive thing to be happy for her, even if bittersweet of the end of Coco. As always, an end of one thing only means a new beginning to many others.

Even the greats suffer from imposter syndrome and feelings of inadequacy it seems. I feel like comparing yourself to others isn't exactly uncommon among content creators (whether it's art, music, gaming, writing, etc.), especially when working in a big industry. Like, in that case, Coco's decision makes sense. That frustration and envy leads people into losing the motivation to continue doing what they love, which can lead to your passion feeling like a burden. The fact that Coco is taking the first step to preventing that makes me all the more proud of her. It's a healthy way to deal with things like this before they turn into hatred, resentment, and envy; especially not a good thing when you're talking about colleagues who you consider friends. The unfortunate part is that Coco felt that graduating from Hololive was the only way to address the issue and continue to grow because otherwise... that passion disappearing is something you try to avoid because it's really apparent when it's gone. I used to do some art as a hobby to relax, but then after Coco said she was going to graduate, I was determined to make something good enough to be featured on something like meme review or at least "liked" by her on social media. Despite me trying really hard (honestly I'm proud of my work being "above a complete novice"), I started feeling jaded when compare myself to others who got featured instead of me, especially if I thought that they were lower effort/ quality. Even though it might still take a little bit of time for people to properly be at acceptance with the final stream happening this thursday at 20:00JST, I'm also at peace now knowing that this is the main thing why she had to make this decision. I don't feel like I know enough about coco, it's sadder now that's she's graduated even. But what I can say is that honestly as one (if not biggest VTuber/ Hololive Star, fight me ! jk) of the most influential vtubers, I do believe she looked like she was creatively blocked. I do think it's the caveat of being a hololive star tho, starting out as a small streamer and then becoming a vtuber can both break and make your career. In both youtube and twitch, and it's sad that's how it is at times. Honestly, even not knowing how it is, I do think the world and youtube has well not destroyed but just pushed a creator off the platform. Not directly but indirectly, it's not the fault of someone specifically but I do think creativity is hard to maintain consistently already and if one is blocked on what they can or can't do it can lead to things like this. It's big sad times, but I do hope even if Coco has graduated from hololive that she, at some point or another, continues to make content. However that may be, big praises to the lovely dragon that has gone to slumber. Comparing yourself to others is a common pitfall for people. Why tho? Because of how we as individuals and how our brain function. Comparing is vital for humans. Is how we do a lot of thing, speech, metaphors, social structures and most of all learning when we are kids, you observe those around you and imitate them. The key is not "don't do it", but know how it works and focus it Ina positive manner, Coco try to explain tho in the later part but with a lot more words. But also be mindful of your negative emotions, they are there and like the positives they have a function to play, not fall into them but also don't just ignore them, otherwise you would be just bottling it up and exploding in your face sooner or later. You CANT force yourself to be positive, it just becomes a mask at that point. That being said, considering Coco is someone with a VERY STRONK ego (different of being an Ego maniac) and that she notice and understand this stuff. I am of the idea that her graduation has to do more with the COMPANY than anything else. Lets see some event from "Cover" perspective: First of all, Coco has been a pain in the neck from the get go ignoring standard procedures, using loopholes and making a mockery of the company. Shit, they basically has to make A NEW RULE at least once a Month! (which also creates other reason for Coco to live, the rules choke her creativity) Her behavior is very "not liked by KZitem" or any other "family friendly cash source". Very bad PR. Not to mention the thin line with copyright is, free use dosnt exist on Japan and even under US law is not define so companies try to ignore it even exist. The whole China fiasco, we know it wasn't her fault and it was coming, but investors only see a very HUGE LOSS on revenue and "Possible more revenue" She may be the most Super chat person in the world, but that would never cover the "possible gains" and all the issues she bring. In sintesis, for cover (asuming they act as companies do) coco is NOT worth it, so they didn't renew her contract, holomem knew she was graduating from months now, which makes sense, Cover wants to use and finish al previous prepared plans and give a threshold time for things to set up evades a bad reputation hit. Imagine I coco was terminated on the spot, everyone would go crazy against Hololive and cover, the damage in PR would be unsustainable. Tho all this is just my speculation of a companies I only know some staff of and previous behavior like deleting all archives, not owning rights to their assets or songs, and some other tho aren't so sure about the fidelity of them yet.

Also she mentioned Taiwan in one of her lives (she didn't said anything political, just mentioned the country because one of her followers' donation message). And for Chinese, even mentioning Taiwan openly is taboo (they don't recognize it as being a country as being separated from China). Ever since, she was being attacked by chinese in the internet a lot. They are called "anti's" and their only job is to prejudice the streamer/youtuber. The pressure was too high and it became complicated for her to continue. It is not surprising to me though, just sad. That's what the chinese do, but YT and other Big-Tech media has arms linked with them so they wont do much about it.

So basically, she wants to be something greater. She may not had had the most fans but she was the top 2 simp queens of Vtubers, meaning she's at the very top, but Vtubers are just too niche for her interests or what she wants to achieve. She's also not really into the nerd or idol culture of Vtubers, nor does she really have much talent as an "idol," so being a Hololive Vtuber is probably not very fun for her. She doesn't really do anything grand or unique, the most unique thing she does is read other people's memes, so I can understand why she feels she's not really accomplishing anything despite having so many dedicated simps. Even the simping, I can't blame her if she feels it has a lot to do with the China incident rather than her own merits.

She's done so much for Hololive, and I don't think it matters if there's other members who are better at certain things than her, like singing. Her personality is what stands out the most in what she does, and I also think her personality is one of the most unique and memorable. I'm not sure how to word this, but in the end, it is best for Coco to leave loving her job, rather than stay and end up not loving it. I hope that whatever she does afterward, she will enjoy it as much as she enjoyed Hololive. Maybe she'll do streams without having to tone herself down.

After watching this, I’m more content with Coco’s decision to graduate. I’d rather she leave on a high note than become depressed as she becomes a shadow of herself. At the same time, I can’t help but think Cover’s increasing protectiveness of their talents as a result of KZitem dumb AI/ToS, and Coco’s situation with China contributed to her feeling creatively restricted. I personally think there are many more things she could’ve accomplished as a Hololive member even with those restrictions, but her ambitions lie elsewhere and I have to respect that.

And, I also want to say it sucks and it so relatable that she fell victim to comparing herself to others. I don’t think any of use are immune to it other than those “enlightened” as she says. It’s kind of funny though, because I think there are many who have compared themselves to Coco and were intimidated by her talent and charisma. She’s not a singer or a typical “idol”, but she pushed the whole industry forward with her ideas and fearlesness. She was a bridge to the JP fanbase and overseas fanbase. Coco changed the vtuber world and there is no one else like her. I hope she realizes that. Im confident she will succeed in whatever she choses to do next. Well it all adds up singing or voice in general was never her strongest suit and Coco does seem to have a bit of a complex about sounding like a "drugged Mickey mouse" she did many singing streams and improved somewhat but was never too great of a singer. In the same time she couldn't make those slightly edgy or just creative things that turned her into a Vtubing legend in the first place and was left doing stuff that she felt many other members were much better at, I seem to remember her break "to save Kiryu Coco" was in the middle of Holofes preparations when this issues had to be particularily amplified. I'm sure the constant spam from zhangobots and perhaps even company showing her she's not particularily welcome in some subtle ways also added to the frustration but she can deal with this sort of bullshit, it probably wasn't the decisive factor.

Good ol' imposter syndrome. I wonder if they have a word for that in Japanese.
@Suiseisexy

インポスター症候群 (Inposutā shōkōgun) Just a transliteration. Imposter syndrome was first described in 1978 in a paper called "The Impostor Phenomenon in High Achieving Women: Dynamics and Therapeutic Intervention" which was published in the UK-based peer reviewed journal "Psychology and Psychotherapy: Theory, Research and Practice". Interestingly, given the paper's female focus, the authors of the paper, Dr.Clance and Dr.Imes are both women. It's been thought that the syndrome mostly affects women and what's more is that it definitely occurs more in Japanese people because their social structure is more collective-competitive than the decidedly individualistic-competitive western world, comparing yourself to others is all but inevitable in eastern social systems. Not to say that we're perfect, the class warfare on the horizon grows larger by the day in the west, meanwhile Japan basks in generation after generation of center-right political stability. Hell if you ask me they've got it made in the shade. Anyway, given the source material is decidedly English it's likely Japanese academic psychotherapists picked up the term directly from the scientific journal I mentioned above, especially because it's sponsorship by the British Psychological Society is extremely prestigious and it's likely any grant-level psychotherapist in any given country reads it, the English psychotherapeutic corpus is state of the art.

Yeah. It’s like when your hobby becomes a job or when you have to start taking something you like seriously or ppl start judging you. Even for things u once liked, the love begins to die. I remember once seeing a video about Marine talking about how she a respected her boss in a job she had. She then talked about how she hated being compared to others during a office party where they put her down to suck up to the wife of the CEO or something. It was so sad but then I saw comments saying that the boss whom Marine respected was inferior to Marine herself. Even if it was meant to be a compliment, it’s messed up. Then literally two weeks ago, I started branching off into Niji vtubers after I came across a few hilarious clips, and one of the ones that stuck out to me was Suzuhara Lulu. Her reactions to the games she plays are fucking hilarious. I remember having a hard time figuring out what her name was since a lot of the clips didnt mention it but finally found it a few days ago. Then I come to find out yesterday that she too is graduating. WHY THE FUCK IS THIS HAPPENING!? I'm scared to get to invested in a new vtuber now, im afraid after i get into them, they might retire shortly after. FUCK. Feelings of inadequacy is bound to happen if you share a "stage" with other people, but I'm a firm believer of "Individuality": No one is the same, and some people can do things better than others. But that difference means you can help each other out, and allow each other to grow. One reason why Coco's graduation hits hard for me is that she's always helped her coworkers, specially her genmates, and I can bet this is why some of the talents didn't take this news lightly as well. About individuality, one of the other top comments here was talking about japanese culture, and that's a huge part of it. In Japan, it is extremely collectivist, not individualistic. The concerns of the one has to pave way to the concerns of the whole. This causes a lot of conservative and traditional mindset, such as with idol culture and pushback to trying new things or breaking traditions. Hololive grew too fast with Coco at the spearhead, and with all of the YT and CN bs they're dealing with, the company and managers have been clamping down, restricting creative freedom, etc. The girls in Hololive are totally good and I agree with what you said about how none of them are the same and they can help each other out (and they do!). But upper management might not feel the same way when one gets too out of line... Cover Corp better get their game together and take a reaaaal long hard look at themselves before they start ruining everything

Puts a new light to her saying "You guys are my number one priority and maybe that's where I fucked up, I had only eyes for you guys" Many people assumed she was talking about the Antis and Spammers and she didn't look at them and such and such. But I think now that she was talking about not looking at herself. That she should've been her own priority

yeah. she always put high priority to make her fans happy. if you noticed, coco didn't take that many breaks aside from suspension from the company, or when she gets too sick. even when she get's sick, she still spare sometime to stream to chat with tatsunoko to assure that she is fine. it's because all she want to do is to entertain her fans. but the problem is, she doing that even when she is not feeling well. she stated that many of her stream she actually forcing herself to feel happy. and that's the problem. that's why even though it's sad as fuckk, i feel relieved that she actually take the first countermesure to taking care of herself. may she always find happiness

@@aditxd1 This is exactly what I was thinking. I cannot recall of a single time Coco actually took a break of her own accord, not even once. Maybe there were delays at most, but she nearly always delivered on a stream or something, she's genuinely one of the most hardworking people in Hololive to the point of detriment. All of the other members have all taken their own breaks at some point in time, but Coco seemingly refused to do that for the sake of entertaining the fans. She's basically been draining herself, and I'd say that most people would come to the same conclusion of "I gotta stop" because you're stretching yourself too thin.

Cant blame her tho... Hololive has now reached international popularity and is now getting into more businesses and events (Just look at all the upcoming events and sponsorships). Most people tend to forget that hololive and the vtuber industry at its very core is an entertainment business that involves idols, animes and games. I cant blame Coco for thinking that she cant live up to it or the standards, Coco herself is just an internet shitposting entertainer. There is also the fact that Coco never intended to join Hololive as an idol, and orignally planned to join mangement to help the talents.

Your comment makes me really sick. "Just a shitposter". Why do 120 people like such a terrible comment? Noone played a bigger part in transforming Hololive into an international player than Coco. Without here, Hololive would have stayed a small niche in the Western world, and Hololive EN wouldn't have been a thing at all. This is how you thank her for it, by calling her "just a shitposter"? I can forgive Coco for belittleing herself in that way, but nobody else. You should be ashamed.

Moments like these really put things in perspective. There's always a human behind the avatar, and humans will always have those doubts, fears, and worries. I'm glad Coco recognizes how that can lead someone down a bad path and took steps to change course, even if it means saying goodbye. I'd rather she be happy then appease the fans, you know? Despite not wanting to be a part of the entertainment side of things, Coco still made great content. I would love for, *when* there is another Yakuza game, that they have a character who pops up now and then, chasing Kazuma around to try and get him to marry her, with a bonus ending (a joke ending of course) where he does marry this crazy woman. And, of course Kaichou is the VA for the character. Sega, pls...

Honestly I foresee Calli as being the first EN to graduate. She's been quite open about not wanting to stagnate creatively, and I just think having to stick to persona will eventually lead to that. A lot of Kiara's frustration at hitting 1 mil last wasn't about being last, but frustration at her KZitem shadow-ban stifling her progress. She should've and would've hit it sooner, if it wasn't for that.
