Ranchers Stewardship Alliance is continuing its Rural Resilience Webinar Series, a comprehensive online event designed to empower and educate ranchers and agricultural enthusiasts. In 2024, this informative series, accessible to everyone at no cost, is being conducted through Zoom and takes place from 7:00 to 8:30 PM MT on the fourth Thursday of January, February, March, and April.
The Rural Resilience Webinar Series aims to explore various aspects of agriculture, bringing forth valuable insights from industry experts. Each month, we delve into a new topic, providing attendees with actionable knowledge and fostering a sense of community within the agricultural sector.
February's focus was GOATS and featured Phillips County, Montana rancher Carmen Salveson
Carmen Salveson is a fifth generation rancher, mom of four, online nursing instructor for MSU-Northern, and self-proclaimed crazy goat lady. When she isn’t trying to get the goats back in, some favorite pastimes include killing plants in her garden, boating, and camping. The Little Rockies and Gates of the Mountains are some favorite destinations. Carmen has been married 14 years to her husband Wes. Their 4 kids are Lucy, Nellie, Dotty, and Monte. They live 5 miles from Malta where Alkali creek converges with the Milk River. Carmen has spent most of her life in Malta. After graduating from Malta High School in 2008 she moved to Havre to attend MSU-Northern for nursing. She then worked for several years as a registered nurse at Bullhook Community Health Center. Carmen then attended University of Phoenix online and obtained a master’s degree of nursing. Since then, she has taught online courses for MSU-Northern’s bachelor of nursing program. Carmen and Wes moved back to Malta in 2015 to ranch and raise their kids close to family. They have together worked with Carmen’s family ranch business, D&K Livestock.
