@PewDiePie I was raised multilingual as a child, and it works out fine. My mom spoke her mothertongue to me and my dad his, and together they would speak english. I am now fluent in all 3, and learning new languages for me is considerably easier. I think its an awesome idea to raise Bjørn like that! Helps him in the long term too. :)

I know a family friends kid who is also being brought up multilingual and is having a lot of trouble learning any of the languages properly and also mixing up the languages a lot. What I mean is that it really depends on how well your parents go about teaching you the languages and also which languages they are. If they are planning on also teaching japanese to Bjorn he might really have some trouble.

@@Rosso4654 As a Bengali in the U.S., I've seen the fate of people whose parents wanted them ahead in school in terms of English and they speak English and encourage it and then they wonder why they aren't able to speak Bangla at home. It's not a good idea to enforce the host country's language, make sure they know your language first from my personal experience and my parents did bring me up like that and I could walk around Bangladesh and be just fine talking to people. The main worry I have is when I get married and have kids is that me and my spouse will speak in English to each other so if I'm not there to teach them they might need to rely on or pick stuff up from their grandparents.

Take it from Theodore Roosevelt: “Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty… I have never in my life envied a human being who led an easy life. I have envied a great many people who led difficult lives and led them well.”
It's the comfort zone we all find ourselves in after going through daily life of this terrible world, it's like coming home after all that and i love it, i'm glad we still have some good and true things left around. The corruption on this earth is tiring and depressing you know, i love some nice reality Pewds reminds of after many stressful things and despair, it reminds me how i was before and what my dreams were like. As a veteran parent Felix is 100% right about cocomelon. I've talked with speech therapists that have confirmed this, the big problem is the quick cuts, it doesn't give their brains time to focus on things. My kids are old enough now to play Minecraft and the Switch has great tools where you can set time limits and I've found that the easiest way to balance, they can budget their daily time how they want.

its also important to point out felix and marzia have a more unique situation compared to the average parent where they can devote 24/7 to care of a child while most families have to balance work on top of it, so they can spend way more time stressing/researching things compared to the average parent since its the most important thing for them in the moment. Not having to work and just can spend all day with the kid is a unique situation this day in age and probably the people he is asking these questions to probably weren't the ones having to worry about it cause they would work while mom/dad stayed home to take care of the kid and faced those hurdles.

Hi Felix, I am a child psyhcologist with PhD. From my honest opinion: Make sure to move away from Japan at some point in the next few years, let him not learn Japan as his "society language" when he ideality should be able to speak Italien, English and Swedish.. it will cause problems especially as Japan will push away the others to some extent in those exmretely important erliry years and even if you go to an international kindergarten for example, the whole bigger environment will still be in Japan. Make the "kindergarten" language the one, he will go to school with later in life. Make sure to let him speak the other important languages at home. For example: let him go to an Italien kindergarten and speak at home plenty of Swedish and English aswell. Dont mix to much, so he intuitively knows "Ok here at this place I have to speak that, Papa speaks that, Mama and Papa together speak with me that." .. etc. This way, 3 langues can be almost fluent.

To make sure your kid learns the Languages AND is not on the screen "as much".... Make sure to have him doing many "Outdoor" things, Parks, Sports, Martial Arts, etc. This will also help with learning Japanese, then also yourselves speak both English and Swedish or whatever it is you speak, switch off doing it. Like, for a month one speaks one the other speaks the other, then switch. Make sure you're doing Reading learning etc. in those Languages at the same time with same person. Japanese you won't have to worry about as long as you have him go to a Japanese school, or one that primarily speaks Japanese. He'll learn it there and being out in the culture. Focus more on your home languages at home.

Been watching from the beginning, and having had Felix be such a big part of my childhood/young adulthood, it’s crazy to now relate to parenthood & the experience of growing a little human (my baby boy Alex is now 3!) Completely agree that it’s continued to become more fun & easier as he’s grown older for us as well. Knew you’d be such a good dad & love seeing you just genuinely enjoy life. Sending your beautiful little family love from the US ❤

Man, you hit the nail on the head with watching our child learn and hanging out with them. My favorite memories are seeing my child learn things and evolve. It’s so cool to see something click in their head when they finally figure something out. It’s also fun hanging out with your child. It truly is like having a really cool best friend to hang out with. I love it.

As someone who went to an international school in a country I wasn't born in, here are some (unsolicited) pros and cons you might consider for Bjorn (of course experiences vary depending on the individual school): - pros: not simply speaking English fluently, but learning it academically (this makes a huge difference imo especially from high school onwards); it may be mostly Japanese kids but many will have dual citizenship, and there will be other foreigners, so it will still be a more multicultural, heterogeneous experience; a private American/British education (healthier approach to studies imho); better facilities. - cons: might be somewhat removed from local culture (unless he hangs out with Japanese Japanese kids), stuck in a kind of international bubble; kids are usually rich and spoiled; expensive tuition.

Growing in a multilingual environment is awesome ! When you're a kid, you just absorb everything easily, i grew up with a father speaking Greek, a mother speaking French and lot of English people too. And now I speak fluently 3 languages and I love it, it's like a superpower :D

playing Minecraft with my son are some of the best memories I have with him so far, I think he was 7 when we started, it was the pandemic and we were mostly locked indoors. We played Minecraft for hours and it was really nice to create all sorts of buildings and things together, trying to navigate through the nether etc.

My mom used to give me puzzles and we would do them together. Lots of pirated movies as well from my father, who thought the Teletubbies would make me gayAf and he forced-fed me with movies from other franchises. He tried his best. One thing I do want to warn about screens: My mom took a very bad approach towards them. She banned me from turning on the house Computer. When I grew older I was fairly out of the loop on how to use basic programs like word or power point. The thing is, if you want to prevent a kid from drowning, you give him floatsies and teach him to swim, but you don't forbid him from going to the beach. I hope other parents use passwords to lock social media or navigators all together, but leave the kids off-line tools at least and PC games like Pinball. That's my honest opinion.
