Does anyone know which part of India the bedi prayer process originated from or is practiced? I’m from North India and have not seen the bedi being used but my wife is from Trinidad and they setup the bedi for prayers. Trying to make the connection which part of India her family may be from 😊

I’m not entirely sure where the tradition came from. I would also like to know the connection. I believe it would probably be more connected to North Indian roots though

Most Girmityas (Indentured Servants) were from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, so her origin might be from there. If her last name contains a lot of "oo" or "ee" (like naidoo), then it is possible she is of Tamil origin rather than Bhojpuri or Awadhi origins. But if her name is more similar to North Indian names, like Singh, Raj, Tulsi, etc. she is probably of North Indian Bihari/Uttari origin.

Did you put the Ganga gel in the bedi before you put the mango leaves in it? I saw water in the bedi and I was wondering if that's regular water or if it's the Ganga gel?
@matthewsguyanesecooking4601

I put regular water and then when the pandit comes and starts doing the prayers, they will add the ganga jal.

Hi Matthew you are a big help for doing this video i wanted to know if you can do a video on how to set up a bedi for lakshmi and ganesh puja with the nav grah puja as well and do you buy your wooden bedi or do you make it yourself

Hi there. For Diwali I will show how to set a Lakshmi and Ganesh bedi. I will be doing a Nav Graha and Surya puja video at a later date too. Thank you for watching

I actually made this bedi. It's a really simple DIY project. I bought 1"×2" wood for the sides and plywood for the base. Nailed it together and painted it. I also added extra pieces of the 1"x2" on the bottom so that the bedi is not flat on the floor.

Hello Matthew! As always what a fantastic video. I really enjoy seeing your style of worship. I have a few questions about the bedi. Is the bedi only used for special occasions or can it be used for any prayer service? example if i wanted to do a personal prayer service to Lord Hanuman on a Saturday can I use this bedi? Second question - once this bedi is constructed with the dirt flour and rice is it a one time use and then reconstructed the next time you want to use it or can you construct it once with the dirt flour and rice and permanently keep it for future use? Third question - does it have to be large to hold multiple murti's or can a small one be done for just one murti? Thank you in advance! -Michael

You can use this bedi for any service. You can use this bedi for any puja. Usually people when just praying at their altar don’t use the bedi but you can. Once it is constructed we usually take out the dirt and rice because we usually only make it for when we have pujas or jhandis. If you wanted to keep something like this at your altar I’m sure you could. Maybe consult with your priest. And you can make this bedi super small or even bigger depending on how many gods you’re worshipping and need to fit on it. You can just put one god or goddess on it if you wanted. I have different variations on my channel already so you can check those out. Best, Matthew

I will try to do a video showing all of the materials and explain them more in depth as I see how this could have been a but confusing for some new to the religion.
