Taking a trip down Memory Lane (as it were) to review Dovetail's old Settle to Carlisle route in Train Simulator. It's significant to me as the second add-on I ever bought for this game, although I have realised that it has a few problems (such as its dated/basic scenery and linear nature, not to mention the old/poor-quality rolling stock that's included).
The S&C is a famous route running over hilly terrain between North Yorkshire and Cumbria, up in the north-west of England. It was built by the Midland Railway and opened in 1876, with famous landmarks along the line including Ribblehead Viaduct, Blea Moor Tunnel and Ais Gill Summit. There are long 1 in 100 inclines up to the summit at both ends, which is how the route came to be known as 'The Long Drag'.
