From what I researched, this was actually footage of the musical's workshop (correct me if I'm wrong) in which the cast and crew run through a rough draft the script and make edits as they prepare for the first official performance. It is interesting to see what "Seussical" was like in the early stages of its life before hitting the stage for the first time - especially considering the different versions that were shown before, during, and after its brief run on Broadway. Thanks for uploading this.

Yes! Oddly enough, there are aspects about this performance which I adore and wish had made it into the final draft(s). In this workshop, when Jojo is lost after the Butter Battle, he has this existential breakdown singing, "It's useless to wonder, or think something new, because nobody listens and *nothing* comes true." It's such a heartbreaking moment, because we see Jojo get entirely deconstructed after he's tried multiple times to use his Thinks for good and be ignored and thrown aside. It makes his restoration in the Lorax Song even more fulfilling.

@@Spoot401 Agreed! In their aim to cut the show down, they lost some of the charming pieces. Although some of the changes are definitely for the better, they wouldn't have been criticized for the confusing/overwhelming storyline if they had left more of the story intact, particularly concerning Jojo's plot. This whole this is just so incredibly artistic and it had to be sacrificed and turned into what is considered a kiddie musical.

@@KeenanSophieLarafan I think somewhere, in every variation of this musical, is a great show. There's great pieces from many of the versions they run through, and I particularly adore the last version of the script where Jojo is crying for Horton's help before Hunches, and he thinks of Horton and talks to him. Horton says, "No, I'm a very large think" before offering Jojo some encouragement. It's a touching scene, but there's also a sad note to it, because Horton can't be there for Jojo that time. That's where Seussical's best moments would shine, offering touching and encouraging moments with a layer of sadness grounding it.

@@Spoot401 I really love it at. At its heart it's always just a lovely story and beautiful music.

@@KeenanSophieLarafan Most certainly! It's a story not many people may get or understand, but the people who do understand the story really, really understand it.
