this video is what i mean when i say svt are one of the few big groups that actually know how to use their member numbers to their advantage. i often find that with other large groups, some members get lost in the choreography (as in you literally can't see them) because the choreography itself doesn't know what to do with the mass of people on stage. it makes said groups less engaging to watch. a group that really took a page out of svt's book is the boyz, you can see the svt influence in a lot of their work.

Same, people call them the kings of synchronization but that was a NECESSITY for them because they're so many. The moment your lines, angles, windows, blocking, and timing aren't impaccably precise, it looks like a mess of limbs. Smaller groups have more negative space to hide imperfection. Large groups have to move as a unified whole. Kinda related is to your comment is why I love their 24hr choreography so much. It's the BEST time to have 13 members!

thank u sm for this video I've got kinda emotional during this video, not only bc of nostalgia, but bc how u showed really well what a great group of artists they are and that they're truly doing real art with their choreos! like their choreos alone can make ppl cry bc it represents the emotions so well

i think this is why svt constantly get overlooked or left out of "best kpop dancers" or "best kpop choreography" discussions; it's because they're just so unique in almost every way. be it with how they use their numbers, to how they execute choreography. it's so different from almost every other kpop act in the business - that really, how do you compare them? how does one judge them, when literally no one else plays within proximity of the same vicinity as their ballpark? they're so singularly themselves and special. so people will constantly forget to mention them when discussing kpop dancers, because seventeen simply do not read as typical kpop dancing. which is, tbh, amazing.

this was lovely! i don't know much about svt but this has inspired me to check out their choreo. truly so impressive how many styles they've covered and how creative they get with their formations and transitions!

That's the first thing that actually caught my attention about Seventeen - they choreograph to fit the music. They're not just interested in doing the most all the time in order to seem impressive or match trends. No move ever seems out of place with the piece, and because their discography is so varied, so is their choreo.

To add onto #9 - not only is their unpredictability in each choreography, but from one song to the next, they use different styles or techniques to make each song shine. There may not be a 'typical' Seventeen style, but each choreo is completely Seventeen every time.

Thank you for this video! I’ve always known that seventeen have incredible choreographies but you explained why and what makes them special so succinctly.

I would say both points 1 and 2 are influenced by the fact that they were the biggest group in terms of member size when they debuted - they could do and explore a lot more with formations than smaller groups typically thought to. It was a key advantage that they needed to utilize.

awesome video! it's so satisfying to see all the hardwork and creativity that goes into making svt's choreo be acknowledged to the details. one thing i've noticed in a few of their choreos is that they often use subtle or small movements to keep the choreo dynamic (not sure if this is the word to use; i'm not a dancer!) i.e. the second chorus in _WORLD, the first chorus in HOT, or the intro in HOME;RUN.

also i think some of this ties in with their music in general too. having a diverse discography with unique concepts for each one shapes how each choreography is different from the last. their choreographies reflect their songs very well, when they're soft and more emotional versus when they're high-energy and tough.

ooh thank you so much for this video! I feel like the fact that svt has rly good choreo is a pretty well-known fact (esp if you're a carat/have been familiar w kpop & following it for awhile), but I rarely see ppl able to coherently explain in detail on why is that, like why does svt choreo manage to stand out yk? esp in video format! loved how you added the creative process part as well. this was done so well, rly easy to follow & understand. since I'm not rly knowledgeable in dancing/choreo I'm rly thankful for stuff like this, helps me appreciate them more. I rly enjoy looking at details in their choreo but can't say anything much besides "wow that's rly smooth/cool imagery" lol. watched some of your other stuff & I rly like how you do your videos!

Honestly, the first time my friend talked about seventeen and how much she loved their choreographies, all i could do was think "of course they look this nice, any big group in complete sync would look amazing" but over the years, i've come to appreciate their dancing a lot more. they don't just look "nice" and sstand out among others because they are in sync, they stand out because they are not afraid to try new things and utilize on their numbers. i'd like to believe i've seen my fair share of big groups but none of them capitalized on their numbers quite like seventeen did, the most they'd do would be canons, and nothing other than looking like an army was impressive about their dances(at least nothing different from other groups with smaller numbers). seventeen is not afraid to group different people together, they love creating imageries, they love setting a scene and using all of the members as props, they're not afraid of any formation that puts the singer of the current line out of center. i've realized that even with my favorite groups with incredible performances and dancers, i struggle with watching their performances from start to finish, but with seventeen, i actively seek out their performances because they're dances are so engaging, you can watch any member and you'd discover something new about the performance. i just love watching them a lot.

Ngl I'm here after watching your latest video about Hybe boy groups ranking, I was sad that svt wasn't included, but then searching around for a similar ranking made for them (couldn't find anything close to what you do) i stumbled on this video and it soothed my heart a bit lol :') Do you have any plans to do a Seventeen ranking in the future? I think your videos are really well made, and I love learning more about dancing!
