Embroidery is a very nice touch! What size machine needle is used for constructing the basket itself? I am having trouble finding that information again. Someone mentioned jeans needles, someone else mentioned size 100/16, but I can't remember what size clothesline they used with those needle sizes. This "little" detail seems to be skipped over in so many videos...🤷♀️ But, it could make a Big difference in a successful project..💁♀️ Thank you!

Hi, Wendy. I do cover that in my video on how to actually sew the rope basket. I used a denim/jeans needle to stitch the rope basket Here's the needle I used: amzn.to/3EwthNK I hope this helps!

How do you get the bottom to stay flat? I have tried 5 different ways, different stitches, different clothesline...etc.
@TheBirchCottage
2 жыл бұрын
Wendy, that is a very good question. The secret to getting a nice flat bottom is to keep the rope flat against your sewing machine and do NOT put your fingers or hands underneath the rope as you are sewing it. Even the slightest lift of the rope will cause it to not lay flat. I tried many different things when I first tried making these bowls. For the life of me, I couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong. Until one day I was telling a friend about my “fails” when it occurred to me that I had been grabbing ahold of the rope by the edge and kind of turning or rotating it with my fingers and thumb on the side of the rope. This was causing kind of a ripple in the bottom of the bowls instead of a flat surface. So, keep your rope flat as you stitch it and gently guide the rope bottom with your fingers on top of the rope, making sure to keep the bottom nice and flat. I hope this helps!!

What is the width and length of the zig zag stitch? Thank you
@TheBirchCottage
10 ай бұрын
I typically use a width of 5-6. You want the needle to come down just about in the middle of the rope on the left and in the middle of the rope on the right. And I use a stitch length of 1-2.

One more question, when embroidering did you have issues with the thickness of the bottom of the rope bowl? I would think it is so thick the needle may break.

I did find I had problems with dense designs. I would definitely select designs that have a lower stitch counts or that don’t use much in the way of satin stitches.

Do you make the rope basket with an embroidery machine or is it too thick for it
@TheBirchCottage
2 жыл бұрын
That’s a good question. My embroidery machine is an embroidery only machine, so I cannot sew the bowl together with my embroidery machine. I would imagine if I had a combination sewing/embroidery machine that I could sew the rope bowl with that machine. Does that make sense? Or answer your question?
