This is the best tutorial for a welt pocket I’ve ever seen! I sewed a similar coat this fall and made so many mistakes, but seeing your video makes me want to try again!

Glad it was helpful! The pattern really makes it straight forward, sometimes patterns are drafted in a really complex way but this was wonderful!

Great tutorial! Can you give us a tutorial where we use thermal interlining such as Thinsulate? I would love to see how thermal interlining is used especially for the back lining and ease pleat. ❤

Was fun to watch! If only I could afford sew to my heart's content! The difficult part would be to find someone to wear all I make as my own wardrobe is complete for now. Long wool coats are hard to find these days. As I currently don't have a car, the long coat is a Godsend during the winter.

I love that finished coat so much, the color is excellent with your skintone - do you get a commission for convincing me I need this pattern? 😄 I enjoyed watching you sew other designers' patterns.... and making mistakes like we all do. 😊 Please do more videos like this, Lydia!

At 27:10 you mention the seam is narrow and tough to sew. Can you (me) give greater seam allowances and either leave them or trim them in the end? Will that mess up the look of the coat?

Thank you so much! I'm curious though: why doesn't the lining get sewn on while all the pieces are still flat? And then after the lining is attached to all the pieces, sew the entire coat together? Is there a reason? Ty in advance 🙏
@LydiaNaomi

Glad you enjoyed! The lining needs to be separate from the shell pieces so that the shell hangs better. For example the pleat in the back of the lining allows for movement in the shoulders, most lining fabric is quite stiff and somewhat flimsy and wool is a very flexible material as far as woven fabrics go. And there are other aspects to how lining is drafted so that it creates extra ease on the inside so that it in no way pulls on the outer shell. You can line a garment in the way you've described but its not going to create a very nice looking coat, because lining and shell fabric are so different, the lining could pull on the shell fabric making it look wonky on the exterior. A shorter coat might work with the flat lining method but its more of a shortcut method.
