I can't believe that you could get that done while you have an infant! Lol Oh my gosh that is amazing looking already! Y'all are inspiring me! I love the swing skirt on coats and because of having lost 175 pounds, I still have a lot of hanging skin and thought from my upper arms. (are used to call them my lunch lady arms but then my youngest, was maybe six at the time, told me that because he was a baby dragon that those are my mama dragon wings; which is a much nicer way to frame it!) Regardless, my "mama dragon wings" make it really difficult for me to get my upper arms into garments because they aren't designed for people who might have a size large torso and size 2X upper arms. But that's one of the joys of sewing right? That you can alter patterns to meet your needs. I'm super impressed about your weld pockets and pattern matching! I really love how you showed a simple way to line up patterns!

I enjoy seeing your process. Thanks for showing it. I was surprised to see how badly the fabric frayed...it was only evident on the collar and stand, but it was surprising. The finish so far is looking very nice with a great fit. I like deep pockets on coats. I'm excited to see the raspberry pink lining, double breasted front, cape and cuffs. Thank you.

Good tip about how you sew princess seams from top to bottom, I've started doing that myself. And for pattern-matching the plaid I'm working with (twice now) I line up the waistband and everything else seems to work out ok from there. Took a long time to get the princess seam bodice block fitted to me but now I feel like I can make anything!! Haven't tried a welt pocket yet but I've recently done ones where you do the same thing but without the actual welt, stitching the inside to the outside, cutting the hole then flipping it to the inside. Kinda terrifying to cut your fabric like that but so far it's worked well!

I love how you put those pockets in... the last time I tried I had to cut the whole front part anew. Luckily I had enough fabric. I think I try using some light fabric for the inner parts the next time, like you did. My first try l definitely looks rather bulky. Have a nice day;)

Very good techniques for making a long coat. Loved the contrasting serged edges! Just wondering why no serging on any of the collar, as your choice of outer fabric really is a loose weave? I remember making a long coat over my 1st Thanksgiving weekend in college (1969). It was 12 hr drive from my parents house, too far for about 20 hrs there, & needed a calf-length long, winter coat on the shore of Lake Superior, in Michigan. I chose a black, cream, medium grey & dark green tweed fabric in a herringbone weave...yep, matched those seams, too. My lining was a satin, shiny grey, with a faux grey fur 1/2" thick... soo great, to tromp in the snow! I had enough length left for a 6 foot long scarf, lined with the fur side out!!! I also added black knit fabric cuffs inside @ the wrist area, to help keep the wind & snow out!!! I had used the same princess line pattern for my High School Sr. Prom coat, from a white on white thick cotton (almost rug-like), so I knew the pattern well! Your coat looks yummy! Wonderful accomplishment!!!
