I am so glad you told us everything, including the cost of mistakes. It's so important to be real about it. It happens. AMAZING job.

Thank you! It was important to me to show the highs and the lows and not just a curated, positive version of the project. I'm glad you appreciated that detail!

A few years ago I made the dress I wore to my wedding. (I hesitate to call it a 'wedding dress' as it was really much more simple than that.) I started with a pattern, but in the end I ran into so much fitting trouble that I basically ended up self-drafting the entire thing. Luckily for me, I was using relatively inexpensive broderie anglaise and white linen, but it was still a super stressful time! I can only imagine the pressure and panic you must have been going through throughout this process. I'm so happy that you were able to pull it all together in the end. You must be so proud of yourself! And I'm sure you were the most beautiful bride.💙

We've all felt that grip of horror, when all the work and preparation should've paid off ..but the result isn't working and a deadline looms. I hope you take pride in how methodically you persisted with solutions, even you probably wanted to give up. It should be a confidence building experience for all your life, not just with sewing. You were resilient in the face of enormous stress. Congratulations.

Oh my goodness! It was such a dainty endeavour! I would have completely lost it ans cried in rage…. Well done for sticking to it (well you didn’t have much choice, Did you) I hope you had a proper rest after the wedding and I also hope this work of art you did sits gloriously in the middle of your living room 😂 anyway, I love it, I love the back detail and that tule looks so soft and airy ❤

I so related to the stress you were experiencing at this stage of the process, as I just went through a MUCH lower stakes version of it making my dress for the Dressmakers' Ball held in Leicester this past weekend. I can only imagine how much more stressful it was for you with your wedding looming; you did incredibly well keeping it together to finish the dress so beautifully. The part about everything taking so much longer than anticipating is soooo relatable, as was your disappointment when the fit hadn't initially turned out as well as you'd hoped. Your troubleshooting went so well though and you really nailed it. You perfectly captured the part of the sewing process I like to refer to as the Valley of Despair, but then we also got to see you emerging triumphant on the other side!

Oh dear, you were so brave to sew this project all by yourself. I would not have the guts to do that. I could tell that you were upset at times. I imagine it was quite overwhelming when its not going exactly as planned.

OMG we can actually see a good deal of your stress in the video and of disappointment during the try on. With an outside eye, I thought wow the dress is gorgeous on you. To me it was already perfection! But of course if you didn't feel comfortable I understand that you felt the need to alter some things! So determined! 👏

What praise! Thank you 😊 I'm mostly self-taught, but I've taken a few online videos (pre-recorded classes by Sew Over It and Closet Core Patterns, then some on Craftsy a long time ago), and I watch a lot of sewing videos on KZitem! The last resource is my main reason for creating videos of my own - I want to give back to the community 💛

It looks amazing I've been doing my daughters prom dress well in this case the top and skirts are separate and I've added some eyelets for lacing the top of the skirt and the top is also going to be lace up as that way of her weight changes it will still fit her xx hook n eye was an option but in the end I went for lace up
@Sarah_Naomi

May i ask how you cut out the tulle? Double circle skirt or something else with gathering? I can see the gathering but not if panels are sewn together or if there are no seams only the attachment to the bodice with gaps between each wedge of tulle, cant quite figure it out, would love to know please.
@Sarah_Naomi

Hello, I followed a pattern created for me by the made-to-measure wedding dress designer Camille de Saint Léger, but I think it's more of a half circle shape in the front, in between a half and a quarter circle in the back, gathering at the waist all around, and only side seams (one on each side). I hope that helps!

@Sarah_Naomi

To make this skirt I used 3.5 meters of fabric per layer (there are 7 layers of tulle total in mine) and you'll need to find fabrics that are 3 meters wide to avoid center front and center back seams. I hope that helps!
