If it went rusty then it’s probably high carbon steel. Which means you need to keep it oil. As long as the rust is only surface, it’s easily removed. And never keep them in the leather sheaths When storing them. That leather can also maintain and hold in moisture. And when you oil it, it would probably be best to use a food grade safe chef soil. Kind of oil that chefs use on their own lives in a kitchen.

Great to see the Sgian Dubhs Ashley made for you Eric. I only got to see this video this morning as, funnily enough, I only got back from a long weekend in Scotland last night and have been suffering the brain fog caused by very cheap alcohol compared to down here on the south coast of England! I actually presented a Sgian Dubh to a friend of mine whilst I was there. It was hand made for me by Mads of Sindre Knives just outside Falkirk. Engraved high contrast Damascus blade and Karelian birch and moose antler handle. Absolutely stunning and very good value!

Great looking knives. The stag was a good choice. Lucky lads they are. Thanks for the interesting background info. Congrats to your daughter.

I got a Sgian-Dubh in the mail today and see you made a video on one. How cool is that. Mine has a stag hidden tang handle with round end cap. I got it from Sheffield Cutlery Shop. It is 6¾ inches long and the blade is 3¼ inches long. The sheath was a little big but; cut it down and added a couple rivets. It fits nice and tight now. The ones you have might be bigger. I think they are real cool knives; I don’t plan buying a Kilt to go with the knife however. I hope for your daughter; a wonderful marriage and happy life.🥂✨🙂

I’m sure you’d look great in a skirt! Because I’m not wearing one either… it’s not very dignified, especially with Scottish underwear rules!

Congratulations to your daughter and her husband. The Ashley Harrison Sgian-Dubhs are a very nice looking size and shape for a utility knife, the stage is lovely. The sheaths look to be a generic design and possibly mass produced. I always make my own whenever I get a fixed blade with an obviously factory sheath, nevertheless a gift worth having and the one from Dickinsons looks like a good working tool.

Thank you for your good wishes, I’ll pass them on. This time next week, it’ll almost be the last dance! If I had any leather making skills, I’d make one too. When you see my next video, you’ll see I need one for my Sin too!

Hi great video, I am in the same situation but am able able to make my own, the problem I have is that I would be keen to make one with an interchangeable blade as a wooden blade would be more appropriate for the weding but keeping a traditional construction would be difficult.I am thinking of Japanese construction and I would pin the blade to the handle like in the katana so the blades would be able to be exchanged.

Hello. I hope you all have a fantastic day. Those Stag sgian dubhs look fantastic. My dress sgian dubh Is from an outfitter in Sterling and has a very sharp blade and is quite usable. I do have a plain wood handled dayblade but never have a need (or legal possibility) to wear it . All the very best.

One of the few concessions in the offence weapons bill, is that you can wear ‘weapons’ that are part of religious or cultural dress. I’ve always wondered if you could get away with the full kilt, Broadsword, Dirk and Sgian-Dubh as general wear about town! Might be interesting in business meetings or down the pub!

I've got a cheap Chinese made sgian dubh. It does have a metal blade with a sharp edge but a cheap plastic handle. Ok just for decoration. I'd like to get a functional knife with a full tang high carbon steel blade and wood or stag horn handle. We have plenty of knife and gun shows here in Arkansas, USA. Plenty of great Bowie Knifes, pocket knives and boot knives but hard to find a custom Sgian Dubh knife.

Getting a proper one here isn’t easy either, hence I had them made. The older one I have came from a long gone gun shop in Edinburgh, and it’s the only time I’ve ever seen truly functional ones for sale.

So, it's a concealed knife, a fixed blade knife, a dagger, and an offensive weapon. Carried down a sock by a bloke in a skirt (as part of a 'National Costume') it becomes exempt from that UK knife law which criminalises me for having an Opinel No 6 to cut the apple and cheese at my picnic in the woods. If ever proof were needed that the law is an ass... Those are beautiful ones from Ashley Harrison - wear with pride and all the best for the big day Eric!

It’s that level of consistency that makes being a law abiding citizen such a joy! I’ve long thought of becoming a Sikh, just so I don’t have to wear a motorcycle helmet, and I could wear a sword everyday! Thank you for the good wishes!

One way to check the stone in the butt of the sgian is to take a spoon and tap it... If the sound is a tapping, it's plastic; if it tinks, it's glass or stone. The blades that are for the wedding are Fantastic! Peace.
