Harakiri is not just a punishment. The Medieval Japanese believed that the good spirit is in his internal red organs . Therefore, it was the act of making an incision in the abdomen to show the internal organs to show that one's mind was clean. It was normal for a Samurai to risk his life and protect his honor.
I have everyone of those films and many more besides, they are fantastic films, then you added the last samurai, while its based on a true story its pure hollywood, they did it a disservice, 7 Samurai is a great classic, it has to be one of the best film collaborations between Akira Kurosawa and Toshiro Mifune, and they would go on and make many more great classics, the 13 Samurai was terrific i hope they make many more Samurai films like this, there are also many NHK mini series that could have been included, the 47 Ronin is one, there are so many different versions i have almost all of them, FurinKazan is also a great series, i could go on and on there are that many, my favorite Daimyo is Takeda Shingen, which by the way is part of his story in Furinkazan....

Have to agree with you. I have two versions of "47 Ronin" including the 1941 (?) version but not that travesty with Keanu Reeves. I would have included "When The Last Sword Is Drawn" in the top 10 and not an honourable mention and for me "The Twilight Samurai" is #1. The subtlety in the storyline is exquisite from depicting the samurai as bureaucrats; the main character as a reclusive family man but with a hidden talent; to the surreal scenes preceding the last fight - for me it is a brilliant film that I can watch time and time again.
I would like to recommend the "blood lance of Fuji"(CHI YARI FUJI), "the bride of Otori castle"(OTORI JO NO HANAYOME), and "the Revenge"(ADA UCHI) if the UPlord master is not looking . And ”Miyamoto Musashi" series is better by Kinnosuke Nakamura than by Mifune.
