The Bund, located in Shanghai's Huangpu District along the Huangpu River, is a historic cultural district in China. Established as a British concession in 1844, it became a true reflection of old Shanghai's international settlement and marked the beginning of modern Shanghai's urban development.
The Bund spans 1.5 km from Yan'an East Road to Waibaidu Bridge, featuring 52 diverse classical revival buildings, known as the "Exhibition of International Architecture." It is a symbol of Shanghai and a key part of China's modern history.
In 1996, the Bund was listed as a national key cultural heritage site by the State Council of the People's Republic of China.
In 2018, Shanghai initiated the functional transformation of the "First Facade" (riverside buildings) and began the "Second Facade" (non-riverside Bund buildings) functional transformation project.
