One thing I notice about Onoda in all footage is he is always smiling. Everyone else keeps a manic disposition but he can see the absurdity of life because he went through a tremendous test and managed to keep his wits about him. Interesting story.
Can anyone be able to contact this man? can anyone say where i can contact hiroo? how or if he has the camp still? can i have him autograph his book that I have of him? talk about convition, if you ever thought you had it tough? As far as anything its the classic tragic hero! honestly It still boggles my mind reading his book and how he kept fighting! truly amazing.
@hellcountry, you are absolutely right, I agree with you 100pct. Hiro Onoda San, I, an American, salute you!

he didn't know they were civilians. can you even imagine what this guy went through during those 30 years? and after that? his friends' lives along with the lives of civilians they took unknowingly until now surely still lingers in his head.
..regardless of the war or whom he killed, the respect comes from the loyalty to his superior when he was ordered not to surrender unless ordered to do so. In our modern society, many have failed to see the importance of "loyalty" as an honorable act. Our ancestors have taught us great respect to the elders but the current generation lacks the discipline and unwillingness to adopt a strict code of ethics as modern society embraces liberalism and freedom of expression...a chaotic society.
I for one a Filipino don't hate him he was soldier but in a personal note i think he has to say sorry but that's up to him if he can live with it saying sorry is a personal thing but still if you ask the older generation of my elders especially the older people of Lubang they really hate Onoda so its up to him really and the Japanese Government but my fellow generation Japanese were cool but don't forget the past just forgive

in japan he is a hero, in philippines is murderer! He looks a hero because of his extraordinary survival and almost 20yrs of no surrender.
