Isn’t that just a deliberate colloquialism though? “I’ll do what I should have done” wouldn’t rhyme with the next line, “but you’re a real gone kid”. I think it’s ok when it’s on purpose and not just done out of ignorance. Like “I can’t get no satisfaction.” It’s deliberate. Not just a grammatical error. IMHO it’d be a worse crime to rhyme “done” with “kid”. 🤷🏻♀️

Regardless of the 'should of', I think overall it's a pretty pleasant sounds they have. This whole cult like theme suits them because there's so much cult like following in entertainment. They might be referencing and irl event, but this could also be interpreted as 'You've got a taste of our sound and now you're hooked'. The 'ends in tears' kinda cracks me up because it's the biggest fans that always cry when bands decide to do something different than their usual flavor.

Dear Justin, From one middleaged rock-songwriter to another (I'm 53 and writing the songs for my rockband, Reverb Poets, over here in Copenhagen, Denmark): I don't think grammar is in any way important in music. Music is about making the listener feel and move, not about "...that's not English..". Some of my greatest, lyrical inspirators (like Bruce Springsteen) will write lyrics that not all follow what most people think is "English". Focus on the feelings and impact. Also, in order to delay coming across as old and angry............take a cup of tea and walk instead:-) Cheers Jonas

I love it when spelling, grammar and non-rhymes wind you up, Justin! I wholeheartedly share your frustrations, (as someone 13 years younger than you), and it’s nice to know I’m in good company. Most of my generation don’t understand it. 😔 My personal bugbear is when I see comments or lyric videos where people say “I can’t breath”. 🤬 IT’S BREATHE! With an “e”! FFS! 😡 Saying “I can’t breath” makes you sound like you’ve actually been oxygen deprived. 🤦🏻♀️😮💨 Drives me crazy.😅 It’s not acceptable English, Jus… it’s American English. Like “I could care less”. To quote Weird Al, “That means you DO care, at least a little.”

I am fairly sure that no “auto-captioning” or AI lyric transcriber ever gets “should’ve” (face it, that’s how we pronounce it nearly all the time) correctly and types “should of.” However - there are a ton of things like this that younger folks (especially) get wrong because they have only HEARD the phrase or word and not READ it. Couple that with Autocorrect and it’s a perfect shitstorm. How many times have I seen “then” where “than” should have been used or “women” instead of “woman”, etc.

Or if you want to be like me and the rest of the millennials, it's would-a could-a should-a. But it is NEVER "could of". I'm probably on the spectrum, with the amount of actual physical discomfort things like that bring me. Actually enough to ruin my day if used unironically. And even then. But yeah... my generation kinda (oh look another one... kind of...) fucked it up with the "coulda" thing. I can go on all day about words and pronunciations that borderline give me an aneurism. Hard to put it in words honestly, don’t have that capacity :/

Yeah, I agree that a lot of metalcore turned into dance music with heavy guitars. I don’t listen to much modern stuff, but blessthefall’s “Witness” album from 2009 is peak metalcore in my opinion. And before that, I always considered Saosin the prometheus of metalcore. They took the framework of hardcore and emo and added the flair and riffs of 80s metal and created a new sound. But perhaps this dance style metalcore of today is just another musical evolution kind of like how the Ramones and the Descendents added an almost Beatles sensibility to punk to create pop punk.

"Should of" really does my head in haha. I think it's from people hearing the contraction "should've" and thinking it's "should of". Anyway, back to the music... this is a great fkn track and it makes my black heart tremble hearing Ollie's death growl 🤘

Justin must have a real bone to pick with these guys lol. The passive aggression hits like a mouth full of wasabi. 🤣 Tbh I agree with most of this - the song is commercialized whitebread and generic af, lyrics prob ghostwritten by an angsty 8th grader, and they look like a Balenciaga ad. But knocking on them for wearing costumes? Coming from the frontman of The Darkness? “Don’t shit where you eat” comes to mind lol. Also amusing how he will commonly refer to something like an everyday 3-chord part in other reactions as “wow that’s really cool love that”, and does the same thing here, but utterly shits all over it instead. 😭 Nothing against Justin personally - I do enjoy some of his content - but I can’t help but say this came off a little petty and cringe. Like it was less about critiquing the music/band, and more about taking any opportunity to mock and criticize. I stopped watching most of his song reactions bcs they lost a lot of their authenticity to me. Seems he’s always either blowing smoke… or this. To the point it made me wonder if any of this is more “paid” promotion vs an honest, objective take. This video didn’t exactly persuade me otherwise. 💀

A video concept: the community tortures Justin with a variety of songs featuring glaring grammatical errors. Like try not to scream videos, except the only thing thats scary is the abuse of the English language.

Nothing irks me more than when people type “should of”. Being from the north of England I’ve seen people type “are” instead of “our” and it just pisses me off so much😂
@SuziQ.

“Are” for “our” is probably a talk to text mistake. “Should of” is ignorant.

@@SuziQ. I’d say they’re both text to talk mistakes, usually coming from whatever accent the person speaks in. And a lot of people where I’m from actually pronounce should have, as should of, and I’m from near where BMTH are from. So it all connects haha

Hmm, shouty with bad grammar. 'Should of' annoys me almost as much as 'very unique'.

He isnt singing "should've" or "should have" or "should of". He's Yorkshire so what he's actually singing is "Should'a" which is just a form of slang!

Yes, because it’s a contraction of “should have”. That is the correct lyric. The caption on this video messed up.

4:06 You're mixing up The People's Temple (Jim Jones) and Heaven's Gate (Marshall Applewhite). Jim Jones made his followers do the poisoned Koolaid thing and Applewhite made them eat drugged pudding/applesauce. Both ended horribly ofcourse. Especially the event at Jonestown.

Interesting… when they started, they were kinda shit - just heavy for the sake of heavy; they gradually scaled it down, reaching Sempiternal which was a brilliant album, but then the radio popularity they garnered tipped them over the edge into pop shittiness; if this is anything to go by, it sounds like they're worth checking out again!
