'Would I give it to guests? - only if I didn't like them'........Priceless Jim, just priceless 🤣👍.

Cheers Jim & for those that like the sweet style of the Shackleton, but want more of a hit, Dumbarton Rock (Dram Mor) have a similar blend with 46% for a few £ extra.

Hi Jim, I had this bottle about 3 years ago, I bought it for curiosity and the affordable price, I did not make me much expectation because of the precentacion. I thought it was a good whisky, accessible to the palate, enjoyable, but it didn't blow my mind, good decision not to put water in it, I did and the result was not the best, another thing I noticed was that when the liquid level went down the oxigenation didn't favour it, becoming very flat, so it was better to finish it soon. I am not going to replace it either. Cheers Jim! 🥃

Hi Jim, I had the chance to try the first recreation attempt "The Discovery Edition" (bottled at 47,3 %) of this, taste it & hear Richard's explanations at the same time, when it came out (not sure about the date, my guess is 2011, but I might be wrong ?), and it did impress me a lot, because also I recognized the style of 2 distilleries being the key components of both original 19th century's release (GLEN MOHR & DALMORE-for those who wonder, I have a 1979 GLEN MOHR home & reviewed it on my channel, but, sorry, can't remember now in which video it is), but at the same time knew it was a sort of high end product, with for instance a not easily repeatable use of old closed distillery casks of GLEN MOHR (a closed distillery), to start with. So, when the mass market (or close to it) 40 % version arrived, I knew it couldn't be the same juice inside & while it was not crappy whisky, it was evidently way less interesting & kinda flat. Also, the "Discovery edition" already had some notes contemporary tasters (who for instance don't know GLEN MOHR style or DALMORE's over 40 yo casks) that could come across as weird, flawed or unwanted, hence the "greeniness" (vegetal) & green oakiness of those old style whisky casks. It is a pity that, in my opinion, this recreations attempts (the first 2 limited releases, coming in with nice old fashioned wrapping paper & wooden box) weren't limited to that, i.e. 50000 bottles each...& then not repeated. Just saying. I hope you'll be able to try this first release some day. I was close to buy me one (around 110/140 € here when released), but hesitated and clearly I shouldn't, because the 40 % version is so weak compared to it....Regrets, regrets, choices, choices....I guess it's life, and it is "only" whisky at the end of the day.

Given Shackleton's great story of triumph over adversity, a much better whisky would be so much more fitting. Agree, it is just ok. Cheers mucker.

Good one Jim! Like you said it's a good sipper for the price. Other than that, not a whisky to talk too much on. Yeah the IPA falls flat as well even though the nose is actually nice. Cheers!

'Old man's piss', ftr, is what we used to call Fettercairn before it was treated with a lot more TLC and respect. So you're pretty spot on actually. I've only ever tried this one once: enjoyed it, but never got round to picking up a full bottle even though it's readily available and seems good value for money. I understand what you mean by that generic, artificial sweetness remaining halfway through the bottle. maybe you've discovered the true nature of their colouring and it's indeed old man's diabetic piss?

ahah, Menno, I didn't even comment on that, but rather on the first release of it, very different (see my comment) & worth chasing imho but only at its original price, not the over 500 £ I saw somewhere today ! Cheers !

Maybe it was partly due to the antler tie in with that Glenfidich and Dalmore 😆? Interesting review regardless buddy - Cheers!

How dare you slander both my Shackleton and Dalmore in one video! 😂 I have never noticed that Whyte and Mackay artificial sweetness strand that runs through their bottles till now. Is it a colouring thing? Great as always Jim.

Could be Jeff but, I wouldn't suggest there's much colour added to the Shackleton 🤷♂️.

Maybe you actually need to comment more on the colour of the whiskies you review, Jim? 😅 (at least if the bottle helps with regards to the entertainment level of the comments) Thanks for the review, never seen that bottle before, so probably not one I'll taste anytime soon. Cheers!
