I have 4 of the Soft Caress Mahonias. They are nice plants. Grow well.

I couldn’t help but find it ironic that as you were showcasing shade plants, you were squinting in the Alabama sunshine! Great content, as always! 😎

I have a area by my front door 11’ deep x 8’wide that gets full shade, I had to remove the azaleas planted there due to dying from the heat conditions and I am in desperate need to find something to replace them with. I would like a recommendation for 3 types of plants that work in full shade note to grow any taller than 5’. I’ve been watching your videos but most of the plants you show for shade need some sun. If you could help I would really appreciate it, but if you can’t that’s OK.

This comes at a perfect time for me. I'm planning to redo my side yard this spring. It's deep shade on the north side of the house in zone 8a. It also tends to stay wet in the area. Currently there's recurve ligustrum there which I'm not a fan of. I'm often confused when it comes to shade plants. Will any of these you've highlighted work with almost no direct sunlight at any time? Thanks!

Be sure to see Jim's video on ferns. Sounds like you have the perfect spot for ferns, maybe even underplanting the shrubs' fronts with ferns. The Autumn Ferns, Dryopteris erythrosora, are evergreen in my 7b/8a gardens, and have bulked up to be quite showy. They are stunning when there is a light snow on the ground.

Carex has been catching my attention for at least a year now. I'm hoping one of the varieties will be a true green, with no yellow or blue tones. Being evergreen really appeals. The specimens in this video are just beautiful. How old might they be, to be this large? If they are slow growers, maybe I should buy large sizes.

Love this, I have a large part shade garden in zone 6 and am always looking for new options that don't require full sun.

Soft caress is a great accent plant paired with a vertical plant. It just survives in very shady locations, it doesn't thrive. In my landscape 8b, the morning sun makes it very happy and beautiful!

Lots of entucky is one of those places like western NC where the zones can change every mile. If you have a protected space I would definitely experiment. Don't overspend. Just try one to start.

These were some terrific finds! I did not want hostas or ferns. This gives me such a large range for a shaded to part sun area of my house 😊

We have a few Big Daddy hydrangeas growing on the east side of the house(front). They are doing well. Can I plant a few ScentAmazing Gardenia plants as companion plants near the hydrangeas? The backyard is on the west side. We live in Zone 8a (SC)
