@@pjay3586 It may seem a bit trite, but it may be more correct to read it as - "The love of many is A root of all evil." Pride was THE first root of all evil, which then found its way into the heart of mankind, and that first man didn't have money to begin with, but he became loaded with pride.. Pride comes before a fall, and such poverty is a tragic symptom of pride which is a father of greed. It is pride that exalts a man above his fellow man and refuses to bend low to help him when he is unable to pay his rent or whatever. Governments who ignore or refuse to alleviate the suffering of the poor have a lot to answer for. It is a mammoth task but it is fixable, with a good dose of compassion, mercy and tenderness, and political will.

That kind of pompous attitude is the same attitude rich landlords have when confronted with facts. That pompous state employee would sell her family to be able to continue making her salary. State employees, politicians and landlords are the read problem in this kind of situation. Why doesn't the state just build or buy buildings to house the homeless. It would be cheaper than paying landlords.

Not one person should be homeless in America!

The cost of renting is ridiculas. In Florida too. Raising children alone is extremly hard. It takes 2 + incomes in a household to just get by. In NY 2+ incomes wouldnt be enough unless one had a high paying job. More are becoming homeless because of extreme weather destroying homes and buisnesses. West coast fires and floods , tornadoes, and hurricanes in midwest and east coast.

The place you served those sandwiches at could also hand out packets of information about orgs that are willing to help. If we stop handing out money and food and just gave them information they would eventually use that. It's all they would have. Right now I'm involved with the Doe Fund, an organization that helps homeless men on two fronts: homelessness, and lack of skills. You have to pay rent there so they put you to work at 15 dollars an hour and drug treatment is a requirement. They also help a man acquire some skills and certifications along with job placement assistance to help you get and maintain employment and housing. How many more people know of these types of organizations? Let's put it out there and stop with the coddling and begging these no good politicians to do the jobs our taxes pay for them to do and do it ourselves. All these empty buildings all over America could be turned into housing. More rent that stays stable so people are not evicted. Programs that keep the rents stable so that people will not be homeless. More rooming houses. Mental health services and housing for veterans. There are solutions. Families help your family and friends. Save and try to buy a home with a group of family or friends.

And they're unemployed or underemployed? Where's the personal accountability with some of them? It is about the money. Real estate in New York costs so much because the housing supply can't possibly keep up with the population. This makes it very expensive. There are cities that have artificial housing problems like San Francisco where people protest and try to stop apartments from being built but also complain about the cost of living. If you don't have the money to live at the epicenter of the world economy, then you should probably find somewhere else to live. I don't live there because it's way too expensive.

Exactly the same here in London UK and in other UK cities .... Affordable housing is a thing of the past, many many many blocks of flats are being built but none affordable for lower income workers or the homeless, all being sold to foreign investors, the uber rich/rich ... the rich Chinese and Hong Kong rich property investors + rich investors from other countries, are very interested in these investments ... Social Cleansing is big money here in London if your rich whereby if your poor you don't even get a look in .... 6 London councils have sold off their very big council estates to developers after emptying these estates of tenants. People who bought their flat/house on such estates are only offered below the market value for their property, they're not allowed to stay on and live in their once previous home. The government/councils call it "regeneration" of dilapidated estates but it's been the councils who have deliberately allowed the estates to get run down, the developer then gets an estate at a knockdown price only to tart it up and sell on to rich property developers who then sell on to foreign investors who invariably leave these flats/homes purposely empty ...... SOCIAL CLEANSING ........

It's far more complicated than that. In Australia/UK you can get a subsidized house for your entire life, there is a waiting list and you must qualify. The waiting list in some cities like Adelaide has become 20 years. Not for the lack of housing but because subsidised housing has made poverty very attractive and success foolish. If I say to everyone this minute if you qualify (are homeless) you get a house I'm sure many people will make sure they qualify. What's needed is in fact the opposite, divert money from housing and the poor to the wealthy in the form of grants and tax breaks for venture capital investments, this will create jobs and economic growth which will then flow down. Might sound cruel and not compassionate by the richest 1% feed 100%.

S Edwards Right!! she couldn’t answer for the stuff the reporter asked in a way that made sense. Sooo She just got mad and rude. Lol. Wanted to punch her in the face. But violence is bad but she REALLY irritated me with that rude smug attitude. 🤦🏾♀️🙄 glad to know she ain’t in that position anymore 🤷🏾♀️.

When I was very very young New York was a city of dreams in my mind. But now that I have grown and well into my mature age, the image has been entirely shaken and woke up to a bitter reality. New York is all but a facade. Just like Hong Kong and other megacities in the world all wrought in fancy glitter but peel that gilded lining and you'll see a dark, rotten reality. I lived in a rustic town with access to basic amenities in life but devoid of this plaguing ills of city living. Thankful that I have a good ol' shelter in my head to keep me safe and comfortable

Did you not see the father with his son? And for the other children, maybe fathers were at work and could not be in the interview. And, the fathers don't always have the money to pay for a freaking $1600/month apartment either!!

By the family structure being destroyed, that could be one of the contributing factors, causing the problem. In the 1940's, you did had large families living together. Grandparents lived in the household, who were on hand to watch the grandkids. (no babysitters to hire) You had more money coming in to the household. (Grandparents had social security money to help out if needed). Stronger family values, stronger safety net. Today, many families do not have that strong family safety net. Everyone wants to be Independent and away from the family structure.

It's best for these folks to move to upstate NY. Everything is cheaper there, and NYC is only a 3-4 hours bus ride away.

NYS is large with 62 counties, that depends on where in Upstate NYS You're gonna live. I'm from NYC & live/visit back/forth between Buffalo, since 1977, that ain't no 3-4 hour drive, (unless living in Ulster, Duchess or Saratoga, etc. counties) that's an 8hr drive on average for an average driver. Factor in possible stops for auto break down, if You have elderly or kids in the car, that may stretch it out longer. It can be done in 5hrs with one stop for a 20 minute rest for good-excellent drivers who take charge of the roads. Buffalo is very cheap, but it's starting to increase with inflation, gentrification of whites in Black neighborhoods and immigrants are pouring into here. I own 2 (2) family houses with no mortgage, just taxes & maintence. One house, I inherited, the other I bought very cheap ($8000) from an elderly former landlord, he was tired of being a landlord. My neighbor is another almost elderly lady who's tired of living in Buffalo, planning on moving out west in 2021 and wants Me to buy her 2-family house. That's in the works, provided I don't have too sink too much money in that house once the paperwork gets started. She hasn't decided on a price yet, say it will be very low. The reason Buffalo is so cheap to live is it cold & boring here in this old Blue-Collar city. A lot (not all) of people here are kinda corny with the way they party & serve flavorless food at a party.
