Disclaimer:
Like with Frontiers, I have my own approach to speedrunning, which I call "aesthetic speedrunning." Simply put, the goal isn't just to finish the level as fast as possible, sacrificing visuals or getting hit along the way. My runs aim to be visually pleasing to my taste - and hopefully to my audience's as well - while avoiding hits and still aiming for a good completion time. This means the times achieved aren't the fastest possible; there are better strategies out there. However, if you pay close attention, you'll see how much "It was perfect. Perfect. Everything down to the last minute details."
The Lore:
Last weekend, I felt the urge to play a Sonic game. As I browsed my library, I noticed I had Sonic Forces, which I had downloaded for free from the PS Store but barely touched. I checked the game's page and discovered the Shadow DLC and the fact that it was also free! I decided to try the DLC, and I enjoyed enough that I ended up making a full video on it. And here it is!
The Gameplay:
First of all, it's rare to find a game these days that lacks a "sound option" for adjusting volume and voices. This oversight blew my mind, haha. I usually like to add my own music to enhance the creative experience, but that's not possible here. Additionally, the game prevents recording cutscenes via the built-in share option, which is a huge disappointment for the type of theatrical content I usually create.
I haven't played the main game yet, so I can't speak for the entire experience. However, based on the Shadow Episode, Sonic Forces' controls feel clunky and sometimes unresponsive, with the homing attack and reticle performing poorly. A game isn't well-optimized if its controls hinder the ability to execute perfect runs. Despite this, I continued playing because I hadn't played as Shadow since SA2B on the GameCube and was really excited. Hopefully, we are looking forward to a better experience with the upcoming Sonic X Shadow Generations. In the meantime, enjoy the complete Shadow DLC experience with its (cheesy) dialogues in Sonic Forces!
