I must say this was by far the best hair color tutorial for root shadowing I have EVER seen. Thank you for a video that was easy to follow and understand. The video and explanation was great until the end when the model wasn't turned all the way around for us to see her part and her front hairline. It's super frustrating when you watch an entire video and don't see then complete end result. We all know this is the most important part of the style ( what is seen in the part and front hairline) and so many Stylists do this.

Hey I know this is super old but with covid-19 I'm trying to do my hair myself I am trying to go silver with a root melt/smudge and the last part is what I'm trying to figure out how to do. I looked up these products but she says toners a lot and what I found was either hair color or color gloss, do you happen to know which it is?

Actually I think I figured it out, the color gloss is used for toning as well so I hope I'm on the right track, someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, i really don't want to have this venture be a disaster

Shruffle Love Hi Shruffle Love! I can't get hold of shades eq...I use Wella Colortouch Demi's. Can I pls ask which colors 7,8,9 you used for your melt. My client has no virgin regrowth yet, but her first three inches of her old Demi have gone brassy/ coppery and it needs neutralising or going a bit darker. I made the mistake of putting her balayage pieces of lightener too high and got a slight orange mid band...it's not too bad though. I used 6.71 originally with 1.9% My biggest fear is melting into the blonde pieces and having them turn khaki/grey. Hope you can help xx

Jake Henderson - sorry for the late reply. This didn't come up in my notifications and I just saw it today. I didn't use Wella, so I am not familiar with the names to tell you, but in my experience brassiness of any type is still cut best using a silver or grayish demi or toner. Then you would just adjust the levels accordingly to cascade down from darker to lighter. If your clients natural level is 6, start with a 6 level demi, but dilute just a tiny bit with clear. You never get a good smudged-line look from the natural color to the bleached bit - if you use the identical darkness of the clients hair. Without seeing your client it's hard, but if her natural hair is ashy, stick to the silver tones and mix 50/50 with neutrals. If she wants her blonde ends to be platinum then keep with the 9 level silvery tones (violet if she's too yellow) mixed with clear and watch until you see the color blonde you want. I hope this helps for the next client!
@shruffles35
6 жыл бұрын
Jake - also, if the bleach hitting the old demi is going brassy, you must look for another type of demi to use. The unique beautiful thing about Shades EQ is that is washes almost out in 3 - 4 washes making it ideal to overlap with bleach without going brassy. I know what you're talking about, because I've had that happen too with another demi I used, and so I switched. I am thinking you might be in the UK (or an Aussie?) from the kisses you left at the end of your comment? The professional line of Wella products are amazing, and I have heard good things. There is a lady on Facebook that is an expert at everything Wella, and deals with a ton of people from the UK who cannot get Redken Shades EQ. I belong to the group. Look up "Killer Hair Group for Crib Colorists". You can ask Wella questions there, and which kind are best to use for shadow roots, color melts, and balayage. Hope that helps.

I love using redken shades eq because I have blonde hair and using toners instead of harsh chemicals help to keep the hair in a better condition. using too much harsh chemical breaking and damage hair. If I feel like having a couple daker tone it save to do this with a Demi colour. and is easier to go back to blonde. xxxx

I'm in school and I'm supposed to do a touch-up tomorrow on a level 4 root to cover gray. Instructor wants me to be confident in applying a smudge root and the lightener at the same time. I'm TERRIFIED! I'm obviously going to be supervised, but what happens if I get lightener on the darker color at the root? All I see when I close my eyes is some awful orange reaction! Instructor says she's a 3N naturally, so I'm just losing it! I've seen color melts with a lighter color below the root and then the lightener pushed up into the lighter color, and it looks beautiful, but I'm scared about this darker root! Puhlease! Ease my mind before I have to do this! ❤️❤️❤️ 🙏🙏🙏
