As a swimmer, it should hurt, not help. We're all about gliding through the water with as little drag as possible. It's pretty rare for a swimmer of any group to wear long hair though. But that doesn't mean the governing board should be discriminating.

I was a swimmer when I was a kid, and the swim caps we used gave me latex allergies and tension alopecia. I had to get a mesh cap; I was told it would be a disadvantage as it wasn’t taught against my head. Swimming is all about cutting down resistance in the water (that’s why a lot of male swimmers will shave their legs). Bulky caps create more resistance, I can’t see how they would be any advantage. Rules against things like Soul Caps (they’re great! They don’t pull on your hair if you’ve got a lot of it!) are usually to eliminate the risk of claims of cheating…. And you know, the other reasons.

The swim caps actually give a disadvantage. It's silly that they ban them but I also agree no swimmer at that level would want to wear them. You don't train your whole life to then have a disadvantage because of your hair. Swimmer shave everything. I even had a unflattering hair cut to make swim caps easier and I was just a kid on a town swim team.

It's good business practice to send it out before you've released/launched to get reviews lined up and ready so that you can have reviews at official launch. So, for me, I'm not even fazed at the idea of there being advance reviews here...I ofc do respect that it's a different industry, but the concept itself isn't shocking. As always, you can view those reviews as honest or not as you prefer.

So it’s not Ulta allowing people early access but allowing reviews from another website on theirs. If you look to the right of the screenshot she shows it does tell you where the review came from. For swimming: you want as little drag and as much aerodynamics as possible. It was normal for all of the guys to shave their heads/bodies completely and the girls to grow body hair out during the season and then shave right before districts/state/nationals. However, most of us girls did have longer hair still. I specifically almost always needed to use "long hair caps" because it was thick and long. Those caps just have slightly more space in the back to accommodate the bigger bun. The soul caps would really just be the next step up from that, and as stated, would primarily be used on those who have black hairstyles. So do both of those mess with your aerodynamics? Technically, yes. But it hurts your performance if anything (most likely just by a few milliseconds, but those can often be the difference between placing and not placing), so it really makes no sense why it would be banned by a governing body. That's a choice the swimmer themselves should be able to make. I know for me personally, my long hair was the only part of my body I was confident in and thought was beautiful as a teen, so I didn't care /how/ it affected my aerodynamics because outside of the pool, I NEEDED my hair. Hair is so important to so many women and ethnicities. They shouldn't be forced to choose between a sport they love and hair that makes them feel confident (and often connected to their cultures). I should also mention that stuffing big/long hair into too small caps? Absolute nightmare. It gives you headaches way faster and your caps are way more likely to snap and break at the wrong moment. Especially if you try to double cap, which is pretty common in competitions. I would say that a constant headache from having to deal with caps that don't accommodate your head would affect your swimming times more than the added milliseconds from a bigger/slightly less aerodynamic cap style... but what do I know in comparison to the almighty governing bodies of swimming?

The idea that Revlon would use scarcity marketing expecting that masses of ppl were willing bid high prices for their products is just baffling. That is interesting to hear that a collaborator would have that much to say in terms of the retail channel of the products. As a former competitive swimmer, there were all sorts of regulations regarding everything that we wore/put on our body, mostly to not give any advantages. That meant that we couldn't wear our hair too long/chunky so they'd fit under our caps. This has just always been a thing. With that being said, I don't see how a bigger cap could give anyone an advantage, but I can see how the rules would be concerned about any hair/style that could change the overall shape of the head and have less drag in the water. I know we had POC on our swim team, and everyone on our team was able to conform to the cap standards. I don't have enough info to have an opinion here, just letting you know how things were forever ago when I swam :)

Your hair, this wavy style, suits you immaculately. Pure perfection!!! This whole video is, per usual,👌🔥!!! (unlike those Revlon flops 🤦🏻♀️...what a shame. They used to be quite good. Not all of the products, but they had some gems)

Linda Halberg got one this past week as well. She likes it and the Riki luvs mirror. It is just really expensive. I have been tempted both times it was shown, but it is so expensive. 😭

On the topic of the soul caps, they are typically worn under a regular competition swim cap... all competitive swimmers wear 2 swim caps; 1 to cover the hair, the other to cover the band from their goggles. So, there would be zero competitive edge for a swimmer to use a soul cap. It's just an extra large swim cap that protects natural hair.

I think it would be interesting if some of the higher end brands would come out with a drugstore line.
