I've never done much of anything with hickory in my full lifetime of woodworking, but this seems to show a nicer grain and color variation than I'm used to seeing in the non-shag/shell bark hickory I've tangled with.

My brother in law is thinking of making a desk with it. Should look really good whatever it’s used for. Thanks for watching. I appreciate it.

Howdy and thanks for the input, it does have a lube system and we use it all the time. White bucket with blue fluid at top of sawmill head.

What are you using for the band?

The band saw? Or to band the boards? We haven’t banded them. Sent them back to the guy that brought the log.

@@SwampSawyer I was looking for the pitch and set of your cutting bands. I have a large hickory and this specie is new to me.

@@kitandlynnthompsongage5637 my apologies, I will get the exact band info as I can’t recall which one we had on. We switched from a more aggressive band to less. I’ll get it today 😁

The band is 4 degree, .045x1.25 Works pretty good but that hickory is hard.

I don't believe that is a Shag Bark Hickory but rather it is a Shell Bark Hickory. The shell Bark does not have the bark protruding as much as the Shag Bark. But I don't believe there is much difference in the wood. Now the nuts from the shell bark are not nearly so desirable as the nuts from the Shag Bark. People often make this mistake in the ID ing of the 2 trees. Hickory is the heaviest of the hardwoods with a cubic foot of air dried Hickory weighs in at 63 lbs.

Thank you for the feedback, I looked in a reference book and was more convinced of shagbark. Either way it turned out great.
