I just worked on a Shakespeare 2701DB this afternoon. I admit that working on a reel while lying in a bed is not a good idea but I was bored. I have nine reels in this series making up a complete set plus some doubles. Glad you did a video on a reel from this series. Investing in one of these classics is always a good idea as if taken care of they will last forever. I’ve learned my lesson now - don’t ever work on a reel while lying in the bed. It’s just a bad idea and gets you in trouble with your wife! - Chris

Okay Dennis, you’re doing one of my all time favorites now. I have this entire series and I love them. I got a 2741 in a very inexpensive group of reals a year ago. After that I got a second 2741 , 2700, 2701, 2707, 2710, 2711, and 2740. I have a few doubles including this 2711. They are just solid well made reels that are as you say versatile. I have used the 2741 and 2740 the most. I’m collecting the blue Shakespeare 2400 series reels now which are even better than these gold 2700 reels. I know the 2400 were made by Ohmori but I’m not sure about these 2700 reels. All of the 2700 series have 1 ball bearing. These reels have very high quality parts made of excellent materials. Every time i see one of these in good condition I’m tempted to get it. That’s a sign of a serious fishing reel addiction! Lol. I’m so glad you were able to do one of these. The 2740 I have was never used and absolutely perfect. It is my favorite. If anyone comes across one of these 2700 series Shakespeare reels in good condition I encourage you to get it. You’ll be glad you did!

Any reason you use cals drag grease over the Penn grease says it’s good for drags?

Either one will work fine. You can use Cal's on reels and Penn's on drags. No particular reason. Both are good products

Hi Dennis, it's me again. Question. I have one of these. Got it when i was very young. 20 l think. Anyway I think I've lost the tickersound. Its all quiet when reeling. Under the cowl there's nothing. Do they sell that part?

You won't find any distributors selling the parts for this reel. You will need to find a donor reel or possibly the spare parts on eBay an other sires - Dennis
