Tim what amazing timing! I’m about to read this with my book club and searched it just yesterday. I always enjoy watching your summaries before I tackle the read / thanks for the videos!

I find this play to be silly and not worthy of Shakespeare. That said, it does bear some thinking about, as it is the only play set in Elizabethan England (apparently) and about middle class people. Or is it? There are some clues that Fenton is an aristocrat and far above Ann Page in rank. Slender bears a striking resemblance to Sir Andrew Aguecheek from Twelfth Night, which is to say, another sly dig at Sir Philip Sidney. Which would date both plays to before Sidney's death in 1586, fighting the Spanish. It wouldn't have been possible to portray a martyred hero as a vain idiot.

Can't unseen this now 😂 It's the expressiveness I think.
