Sakhipur upazila is located in 12 upazilas of Tangail district of Bangladesh with an area of 165.94 sq mi with 132 villages, 1 municipality and 6 unions. Geographically, North Ghatail Upazila is situated at 24.32 degrees to the north and 90.16 degrees to the east, Mirzapur Upazila, Gazipur Kaliakair Upazila to the south, Bhaluka Upazila of Mymensingh to the east and Kalihati and Basail Upazilas to the west.
The distance from the capital Dhaka to Sakhipur upazila is 8.9 km and from Tangail Sadar to Basail upazila it is 48 km.
As Sakhipur Upazila is surrounded by hills, there is no shortage of natural diversity. There are hilly meth paths, there are innumerable mud houses, there are forests and gajaris.
Under the present government, the communication system has been greatly improved.
Although the naming history of Sakhipur is not known, it is believed that at one time a man named Akul Mandal along with his group started living by a pond in the present Sakhipur upazila. And she was Rajbangshio, Rajbangshio girls were very beautiful in nature. Akul Mandal also had a daughter, she was also very beautiful and her name was Sakhi. Sakhipur is named after him.
Sakhipur upazila was established in 1986 with 6 unions. The unions are Kakrajan, Beheratail, Gazaria, Jadavpur, Hatibandha, Kalia, Dariapur and Bahuria.
There has been a radical change in the education system, this upazila is proud of its 201 educational institutions.
There is 1 Government Ornas College and Women's College. There are 45 secondary schools, 128 primary schools and 26 Fazil, Alim and Dakhil madrasas.

According to the census data, the Department of Demography and Statistics of the upazila says that the total population of the upazila is 26,598, with 636 people living in each square kilometer of the upazila. The area of the whole upazila is 429.6 sq km, the literacy rate is 41.1 percent and the population growth rate is 1.36 percent.
This area has made an outstanding contribution in the liberation war of 1971. The soil, people and jungle of this area were the bases of the freedom fighters. During the war of liberation, independent civilian brigades and guerrilla Kaderia forces were formed in this area. The organization was born and headquartered at Mahanandapur in Sakhipur upazila.
Bangabir Kader Siddiqui Bir Uttam established this force in the remote hilly forests and connected people from all walks of life in the area. The fierce battle began, Sakhipur became known throughout Bengal as the base of the Kaderiya forces. The Pak army did not stop and carried out one operation after another, but failed, due to the tactics of the Kaderiya forces.
1984 Sakhipur Municipality was transformed in ------- and the leading role as the architect of modern Sakhipur was played by the heroic freedom fighter Sookat Mumin Shahjahan, who built road ghats and educational institutions. The touch of urbanization started in the rural areas. The rate of education continues to increase, people's lives also change.
